Changes at WRFD

Congrats to Dan Craig of WRFD for his pending move to the Salem stations in San Francisco. He's done a great job with WRFD as it HAS to be difficult to survive in a local market with a 5000-watt daytimer. Proof that you can do a lot with class, dedication and not just a little faith. Blessings to your family as you move west, Dan. Also, congrats to Tom Heyl as he moves a few feet down the hall from the Sales Manager's office and takes Dan's old spot. With the changes happening there, it's going to be an "interesting" time.

One of my neighbors likes to listen to one of the preachers on WRFD. I've been telling him for the last few weeks to look for major program changers at WRFD.
I told him his favoriteWRFD programing won't be on WRFD much longer because WRFD has to sold.

Today, someone mentioned 'WRFD'... So, of course, I mentioned the sell of WRFD and was told the buyers are having problems securing funding for the station.
This person went on to say that the new WRFD owners are hoping to keep the current WRFD staff in place. They went on to say that they hope the new WRFD
owners will keep the current programs in place. This person is pretty close to the situation at WRFD.

So, What changes are in store for WRFD after the sale? Sure would like to give my neighbor the facts on any impending programing changes at WRFD.

If I had to guess, I'd say that the staff at WRFD was being told there will be no changes so they don't jump ship.

Why on earth would you tell your friend this? Especially when all you are doing is reading a BB post.

Ofcourse

with any sale there is always going to be changes..

I would think due to the nature of the programming on WRFD that we will likely see some change but not a complete removal of the current line up.

Most of the minstries on WRFD are nationally known ones that would fit the current format of WRFD

In the Salem earnings call today, management said they expected the sale to CVCO to close in the 2nd quarter.

A few months ago, there was a radio-info.com thread entitled something like this: "Is the sale of WRFD to Christian Voice struggling"

Is there a chance that the sale of WRFD WON'T go through at all?

It looks like we can now indeed declare the sale of WRFD to Christian Voice as struggling. In the SALEM MEDIA OF OHIO, INC. application for ANOTHER Extension of Consummation, we see the following:

http://fjallfoss.fcc.gov/cgi-bin/ws...xt=25&appn=101302382&formid=905&fac_num=58630

Exhibits Exhibit 1
Description: ASSIGNEE STATEMENT IN SUPPORT OF EXTENSION OF TIME WITHIN WHICH TO CONSUMMATE

THE PARTIES HEREIN SEEK A 90-DAY EXTENSION OF TIME WITHIN WHICH TO CONSUMMATE THE ASSIGNMENT OF LICENSE OF WRFD FROM SALEM MEDIA OF OHIO, INC. TO CHRISTIAN VOICE OF CENTRAL OHIO, INC. (CHRISTIAN VOICE). THE REASON FOR THIS SHORT EXTENSION OF TIME IS THAT RECENT EVENTS IN THE OVERALL US ECONOMY HAVE SPILLED INTO THE AFFAIRS OF THE BROADCAST INDUSTRY IN GENERAL, AND CHRISTIAN VOICE IS NO EXCEPTION. WHILE CHRISTIAN VOICE CONTINUES TO BE SOLVENT OVERALL, AND POSSESSES SUBSTANTIAL ASSETS, ITS NET LIQUID ASSETS POSITION HAS BEEN ERODED DUE TO THE GENERAL FINANCIAL CRISIS.

AS A PRUDENTLY-RUN ENTITY, CHRISTIAN VOICE HAS TAKEN MEASURED STEPS IN RESPONSE, INCLUDING AGREEING TO THE SALE OF ANOTHER OF ITS RADIO STATIONS, SPECIFICALLY WCVZ(FM) IN SOUTH ZANESVILLE, OHIO, AS A MEANS OF CONVERTING VALUABLE BUT NON-LIQUID ASSETS INTO MORE LIQUID FORM. THE COMMISSION RECENTLY CONSENTED TO THE ASSIGNMENT OF WCVZ, AND THAT TRANSACTION IS EXPECTED TO CLOSE IN THE NEAR FUTURE. CHRISTIAN VOICE INTENDS TO USE A PORTION OF THE PROCEEDS OF THAT TRANSACTION TO CONSUMMATE THE ASSIGNMENT OF WRFD TO CHRISTIAN VOICE. ACCORDINGLY, A SHORT, 90-DAY EXTENSION OF THE TIME WITHIN WHICH TO CONSUMMATE THE WRFD TRANSACTION IS CONSISTENT WITH THE PUBLIC INTEREST.

PLEASE CONSIDER THE INFORMATION PERTAINING TO CHRISTIAN VOICE AS CONTAINED IN THE ORIGINAL ASSIGNMENT APPLICATION HEREIN TO HAVE BEEN AMENDED BY THE NEW FACTS REPORTED IN THE INSTANT ASSIGNEE STATEMENT, CONSISTENT WITH SECTION 1.65 OF THE RULES.

All this past week the River did their annual spring fundraiser.

They ended early (about 12:30pm Friday).... fully funded for the next 6 months.

OH THANK GOD!!!! A commercial radio station is fully funded for 6 months through the gifts and giving of listeners....what's wrong with this picture?

They do not receive all their funding from the ads they do run, only a portion of it thus the listeners donations.

also, its no different than when the progressive talk folks asked on air for donations and support on their website while they aired ads on a comm station.. no different than PBS asking for money when they run all those 'this program is brought to you by <insert company here>.'

also, its no different than
...

actually, the difference is that CVCO is a successful Christian ministry... so everyone "in the world" thinks its alright to attack them.

PBS is public broadcasting.... who would ever think to attack precious public broadcasting?!?

I agree with xmusicmatt .
