Changes Coming At WOMX? Cushman Gone

Jeff Cushman has left the building.

CBS RADIO/ORLANDO SVP/Market Mgr. DAVE ROBBINS tells ALL ACCESS, "Today is JEFF CUSHMAN’s last day with WOMX. We appreciate his many efforts through the years and wish him nothing but the best in his future pursuits. Effective immediately, BOBBY SMITH will become interim PD of WOMX as the search gets underway."

If a format change is in the cards, I sure hope for something other than another "Current Hits/Oldies/Rhythmic/CHR/Classic Rock/Spanish Speaking/Country or whatever-you-want-to-call-it music format that seeks its itty-bitty piece of the boring pie that exists in the Orlando market now. How about something unique (Sports/Talk would be a good idea) that could be sold with rate integrity instead of a commodity mentality. I am on the sidelines cheering "Go CBS Go."

I'd love them do CHR and give CC a run for the money (that they don't have). They'll probably have to fire some people to fund a marketing campaign.

When CBS does FM sports talk it's 100% live and local, and they talk local tams almost exclusively. Hard to do that in a town with one pro team and one D-1 college program. The only way they could spin that would be also consider the Gators, Noles, NASCAR and the PGA Tour local sports, or adopt all the Tampa Bay teams.

CBS getting Gator sports is not an option as UF sold the radio broadcast right to Clear Channel outside of University owned WRUF AM/FM.

Not sure about FSU sports.

Who has Jags rights in Orlando?

Motor Racing Network will never go on any Orlando Flame Thrower in doing so they'd lose 14 or 15 affiliates.

flip 105.9 back to rock as X 105.9 alternitive

then you can sell 101.9 105.1 105.9 as a package to clients

but 101.9 needs to skew younger i heard some songs on that station back in october that belong on 94.5 not 101.9

Hmmmm ya got me thinking Mike. If CBS Flips 105.1 to Rythmic/CHR could mean they flip 101.9 to Urban AC (Probably not-Victor Starr from WPGC has just been named PD) and then the million $ question is the 105.9 Wild Card which probably has more to do with REVENUE and less with RATINGS and which one produced or produces greater revenue ORock 105.9 or the Current 105.9 SUNNY FM Format.

I'd like to see a Rhythmic AC format in Orlando. Seems like it would make sense. Orlando, was a huge market for freestyle and dance back in the day, so I'm surprised no one has tried it. Clear Channel is the one rolling out rhythmic AC's these days, but I don't know if any of their signals would be flipped right now (I would argue 104.1 should be). But I would love to see CBS step up and do a rhythmic AC format in town. I think it would be a good direction for either 105.1 or 105.9 to go. I know, 105.9 did jammin' oldies several years back, but today's rhythmic AC format is more pop/dance and less urban, and focuses on an entirely different set of music, so I think it could work well in Orlando and central FL. (A good mix of 80s freestyle, 90's dance and hip hop, and rhythmic pop from today and 2k). I would think the demos in Orlando would be almost perfect for this format based on age breakdowns and cultural makeup. Anyone else think rhythmic AC would be a good fit for O town?

I don't think many companies have had success with R/AC like Clear Channel. Most of the "MOViN" ones (which CC never did) have either flipped to something else or evolved. CBS tried it in Dallas and San Fransisco....I think Dallas went Hispanic and SF evolved to CHR.

I'd make this one AMP or NOW (105-1 NOW sounds better, but they'd probably use Amp).

Just saw commercial for Mix voiced by Scott on a local broadcast channel (not a cable channel). The spot was about the music mix...can't believe CBS would market current format if changes were in the works?

Sunny now has their "Saturday Night Classic Dance Showcase" Saturdays 7pm-12am & they play the "rollerskating music" as they call it. They played Stevie B. "Party Your Body", Company B. "Fascinated", Shannon "Let The Music Play", Expose "Point Of No Return", Rob Base "It Takes Two", Cover Girls "Show Me", & Freez "I.O.U." just last week.

Freestyle is still big here in Orlando. Tabu Nightclub packed at least 500 people on a Wednesday night for their Freestyle concerts every single month.

I get requests to play Freestyle regularly on my radio show, "DJ Mo Radio" Fridays 5-7pm on WPRK-FM 91.5. I've also been told by one of you that my particular show appears in Arbitron diaries, even though I'm on a College station that's just 1000 watts power & only on for only 2 hours.

Don Howe was so far over his head as Market Manager and had no idea how to run a successful radio cluster. Dave Robbins is a pro and will get things done at CBS Orlando.

Come on now, we all know it's going to be Fish'n 105.1 FM, The Big Catch. Hook and Bobber in the Morning, and the rest of the "Cast" all day long! Florida's fishing community has been way underserved for years and now it's CBS's chance to snag a Big One.

I know they can't get the Gator games, but considering them a local team as far as coverage and show topics are concerned is what I was talking about.

I think the Jags are on 740.

Interestingly, CBS currently owns a sports station in Tampa - a mostly bird-fed AM 1010 - and I'm sure they could put sports talk on their smooth jazz FM station there at any time. I got it - it'll be a tandem format flip - here and Tampa - and it'll be marketed as such. Then they'll hire away Dan Sileo... ::)
