Changes Coming KYW 103.9FM

Or eyes I like to say, KWY News radio 1060. All news all the time with traffic and transit on the twos.. I was listening to the traffic broadcast around 3 PM on Sunday, September 7 and I was surprised who was reading the Traffic reports. It appears KYW swept up Valerie Knight from the breakfast club and the Baule night morning show on 106.1 the breeze.. I’m wondering if KYW is going to be letting go one of their traffic reporters to give Valerie Knight a bigger role on KYW. I was calling in to give a traffic report on I 76, and I asked is that Valerie Knight from the breakfast club? She got on the phone and says yes that’s me, so I asked her. Are you planning on staying at KYW and her response is this is gonna be my new home. So continue to listen to KYW to see if they do a lineup change and put Valerie night in afternoons replacing Stevie Reese, or have her do the evenings after rush-hour. I highly doubt they’re going to replace her in the morning, replacing Justin Drabick. I went looking around online and at Kathy’s LinkedIn and nothing is set in stone saying that she works for KYW, which means she’s probably testing and if she does well, we could probably see her hosting the weekdays. Unless they have better plans for her and have her report the news on KYW. Either way it’s big changes in Radio with Kathy Romano going to be 101 and Valerie Knight now landing a spot at KYW.

What are your thoughts on all these changes and radio? Not gonna lie I’m very excited if she does come over on the station because I used to love her morning show on 106.1 The Breeze. I highly doubt that she was just a fill-in, as they gave her a pretty good shift on Sunday during rush-hour.

Hey Kathy, if you are reading these threads, can you fill us in if you’re planning on working for KYW or is this just a stop at Audacy and they may move you over to one of their other brands like B101, or BIG 98.1, or the New 96.5.

Honestly, Kathy, I think he would be great doing Traffic for all Audacy brands in Philadelphia. This is Kathy Roman with your traffic report on B101. This is Kathy Romeo with your traffic report on the big 98.1, or this is Kathy Rio with your Traffic in transit on today’s 96.5.

Is Gotgizmo Julius by another screenname?
I’m JP. Not a big writer on here. I just read theads about how many stations change overtime. And honestly, I wouldn’t call you out as somebody else, it’s disrespectful and rude. You could’ve asked me my name then assume I’m just some person that you must dislike on this app. I wrote about Kathy Romano and I also wrote about Valerie Knight. I’m sorry if there is more than just one listener that listened to 1061 the breeze.
I did not suggest changing in traffic anchor on a Sunday is is” big change”. I merely mentioned that they had her on on a weekend probably doing an air check to see how she does. I want to be surprised with that air check that we hear her on the other Odyssey stations in Philadelphia, unless they make a big change and get rid of another Traffic anchor on KYW and replace her in that position. And I highly doubt it would be just in the morning and I highly doubt it would be Stevie in the afternoon. If anything, she may get the evening commute.

A Philadelphia radio personality doing fill-in traffic does not equate a change. It means she's taking a position to earn some cash. The full-time traffic lineup has been the same for several years now since Sam Clover retired. If Audacy wasn't happy with that, they would have made changes by now.

KYW (and traffic reporting) has been a job opportunity that other unemployed/underemployed radio talent such as Sue Schilling (formerly on WIP among other stations) and Joe Altamonte (formerly on WIP) have been hired for. Add Valerie Knight to that list.
