Changes coming soon to WPRO & WPRV

1. Upon re-reading my previous post I realize my use of the word "shuffle" gave the wrong impression. My apologies for that. Like you, I don't believe for one second St. Pierre has the juice (love that term, btw, well played) to change the line-up at the #1 talker in town just to suit himself. You and I are very much in agreement on that.

2. You wrote that Ronzo is "already in possession of a fulltimer on the Cianci show". And therein lies the rub. It's the Buddy Cianci Show. Have you looked at the show's website recently? Have a look:

http://www.630wpro.com/sectional.asp?id=18073

Notice anything missing? No mention whatsoever of Ron St. Pierre.

So yes, technically Ron's got an on-air gig at WPRO. But it's not the one he wants, and it's not the one he's going to have in early 2011.

3. "rumors with no facts offered up" - I've got two sources drawing a Citadel paycheck telling me it's a done deal. I'm sorry if that evidence isn't hard enough for you, but I also understand that it's reasonable to apply Ronald Reagan's maxim here: Trust, but verify.

WPRO hasn't officially announced anything and won't until the calendar flips to 2011. When that happens, everyone will know if I've been floating baseless rumors or giving this discussion board advance notice of what's to come.

Yes, now that the calendar has flipped we can all see which was true

BOB!!

Welcome back. I'm truly honored that my initial post on this thread has brought you back to the boards after a 6-month hiatus. ;-)

I will simply remind you of what is plainly stated in that first post.....I wrote "early 2011", not "January 2011".

So holster your sidearm, cowboy. It's coming.

Of course no one, NO ONE, should take my word for it. If you want to find out for yourself, then go straight to the proverbial horse's mouth and ask him yourself.

[email protected]

"Hi Ron. There's a rumor online that you're about to start hosting a show on WPRO. Is that true or false?"

Bob, by all means, please drop Ron a note yourself. Please report back to this thread on the response you get.

Looking forward to your next post,
mrkadison

Time for me to step up and take a small bite of the proverbial Humble Pie. Per my post that started this whole thread........

- Yes, Ron St. Pierre is stepping down as PD of WPRV (motto: All The Boring Financial Talk We Can Muster).

- Yes, Ron is moving to be a full-time on-air presence on WPRO.

- But NO, Ron's not getting his own show.

I just got in from having drinks with one of my two aforementioned sources who apologized profusely for the confusion around his/her initial news. Ron's simply going to continue to be Buddy's......um....well, "co-host" seems a bit of an overstatement simply because if you go to "The Buddy Cianci Show" page on WPRO's site there is no, none, zero, zip, nothing, repeat NO mention whatsoever of Ron St. Pierre.

So, yeah....Ron's gonna keep being Buddy's....other....guy....who, y'know....talks during Buddy's show.

I must tip my hat to radiohead06 and Phil for (rightly) questioning both the wisdom/likelihood of Ron getting his own show and the notion of Ron having "the juice" to shuffle the WPRO line-up by getting his own solo hosting gig.

I'm left with two thoughts:

1. If for no other reason than mere curiosity, I'm wondering what Citadel is going to do with WPRV. I think they can make it work as a talk station with a business slant/focus to it, but for the love of god they've got to take some chances. Try some new/fresh blood.

2. I'm kind of shaking my head at Ron St. Pierre's move. Dude just got inducted into the RI Radio Hall of Fame and THIS is his move? To throw up his hands and say, "I'm too tired/lazy to manage a station, so please let me just be Buddy's sidekick!"......I dunno.

Ultimately, that's just kind of sad.

Pardon my ignorance, but, which one is WPRV? Is that what happened with 790 AM?

And when is Z100 coming back? ;)

Jacko

790 WPRV is indeed Biz Talk. I still think the WPRV calls should have gone to 99.7, with WEAN returning to 790.

I really don't understand business talk radio. Apart from WBBR, who has ever been successful doing that format? It's boring, tedious & a tune-out. If you want business info or talk, isn't the web an easier place to go? Then what about tune-out? Do these stations even HAVE anyone listening? Never mind that business talk was tried once before on 550! Here's what tops it off though: RHODE ISLAND IS THE WORST STATE FOR BUSINESS!!! 550 would be better off as an oldies station, what with R.I. having the 2nd-highest amount of elderly.
