What a rating slide it's been for KXTE.This former #1 18-34 station is now #12 and continues to freefall. Losing Howard has devistated EXTREME rock radio. Yet, as I have mentioned a few times on here, the one single format that could give them even worse ratings is FREE FM. This hot talk format has been a disaster everywhere it's been tried. CBS should already be flipping their existing FREE stations to other formats, not switching stations to FREE.
So if KXTE flips to the Free FM format will KSFN go all im with SNR. Let's hope so. And since Area 108 signed on I haven't even been listening to 107.5. And i also think the Spike format failed or is failing is because it's targeting the young male demo on AM, where no one except radio geeks like me even bother listening to. So I say bring on Free FM and maybe we can finally hear Don & Mike without static.
If 107.5 does go FREE FM, CBS would probably just switch 1140 to all sports. SPIKE already runs a lot of Sporting News Radio so it would be an easy transition.
I don't think that CBS would ever switch 107.5 to Top 40/Pop as it would hurt both MIX and KLUC (even if they became more urban). They would just be cannabalizing their own audience.
