Changes Coming To Current TV

Current TV, the cable channel co-founded by former Vice President Al Gore, is said to be "preparing for a major format change that will alter the face of the network's programming."

Recently, Current has hired a consultant: Brian Graden, who once ran MTV.

I think we know what this means, folks... another network airing Pauly Shore movies for no good reason!

Consultant = Very Bad News

Whenever I hear the word "consultant," I get a cold chill down my back. They are never good news, and they usually mess up something that is working fine.

Consultant. MTV. Two of the worst things that happened to modern cable.

Worst case scenario -- Current becomes a USA / TBS clone, just like all the rest.

As opposed to withering away because people aren't tuning in in the first place. ::)

Current is just a mess of a channel. There is no logic to the way it is programmed.
They need to do something. They have no viewers now.

How many viewers did the station have when they aired CBC news Content from Canada quite a while ago? (under whatever name it was at the time...? )

NewsWorld International.

Besides infoMania, I don't even watch this channel. SuperNews isn't funny at all and the rest of the channel is boring.

Sounds like a return of News world International would bring in better ratings, I guess...

Current's best hope is to merge with another small independently-owned niche network, like Ovation (although the Hubbard family is on the other side of the political spectrum as Mr. Gore) or The Documentary Channel. I'm thinking...what would Tipper do (if she ends up with half of Al's wealth--and a stake in the network--after the divorce is final)?!? :D

I actually really enjoy the freeform format of Current, but I could see where they have flaws, especially because their programming isn't dumbed down like most shows on MTV. Dumb it down, make more money!
