Changes coming to Star 99.9

You didn't get this from me, but ....

More changes at STAR. Chris Reno is out as morning show host after only 2 months. He'll move to afternoons for a month starting Monday. Cox Radio will release him in 30 days. Mike McGowan moves from PM Drive/Production Director to morning co-host. They are shortening the three 90 second content breaks in the morning show clock in order to play more music. Right now the current clock accommodates eight songs per hour. Their goal is to play ten per hour to get the ratings up. Morning show producer, Ben Churchill got his walking papers on Friday as it was told the producer's position has been eliminated. Look for more voice tracking to be employed in an effort to reduce costs after a less than stellar year of billings.

It's sad to see the deterioration of a pretty good station, especially when it seemed to be finally settling into a stable mode. The only stable people these days are Delilah in the evenings, and traffic reporter Tommy Edison who can never be fired because he's blind. The only good thing about being disabled. Star 99 ever fires him and Edison would slap Cox with a massive lawsuit under ADA. Mcgowan did a good job filling in for Marit when she was on vacation, but I don't see if it'll be worth it if the morning show is dialing down their talk content. Who's going to ultimately take over for Mcgowan in the afternoon? Is it going to be Jenni Chasen, who filled in for Mcgowan last week when he took a day off?

Another thought. At the rate this is going I wouldn't be surprised if Cox eventually just leaves the station for dead. Axing everyone and flipping into a jack-lite format with no dj's except from 7-3 with Delilah.

Poor Reno. Left BLI to do mornings at PDH in Poughkeepsie and got axed. Then he gets a second wind at Star and gets axed again. I heard him doing a weekend shift on Star and thought he sounded good. As for the morning show, sounded like he was getting lost in the shuffle a bit.

Ever since Charley Connolly left Star it's been very unstable. Does anyone know why he left?

Could the problem with mornings be Marit's fault? How many co-hosts have they been through lately? I heard she is pretty much a nightmare to work with and they just keep blowin people out to make her happy. It's too bad I liked Reno thought he was on his way to something. I can't believe they would pop him out after only 2 months.

Speaking of Reno, if Reno knows he's going to be axed in 30 days it's stupid to force the poor guy to go through the motions of afternoon drive. How much enthusiasm can he attempt to fake when he knows he's on his way out? Plus how can he be forced to make nice with mid-day host Samantha Stevens as he's taking over for her at the end of the shift. I can just imagine him cursing at her as she's finishing up and he arrives and she tries to make chit-chat about the weather and his plans for the future. Cox is making a poor choice here. Since Reno knows his days are numbered he's not going to bother performing his job with any gusto, but will quite reasonably go through the motions.

Chris Reno ( if he wasn't fired): Star 99 soft and contemporary. He won a Grammy last night for his album Continuum, here's John Mayer.

Very true, now I understand why stations need to let people go right away. Either that or they're afraid he will say something bad about the station or embarrass the station in someway before his last day.

What else do you think Sam Stevens says to him during middays?
