CHANGES COMING TO WIMZ?????

I've heard Big R doing several commercials for WIMZ saying that they've been doing studies among listeners of different age groups trying to find out what they need to do to make WIMZ a better station. He says that the thing they've heard most is that they need more variety (duh - they had to do studies to figure that one out????). Anyway, they're giving out a phone number for listeners to call and tell what the like and dislike about the station and to tell what bands and songs that they would like to hear and what bands/songs they don't care that much about. Big R said that starting in 2006 alot of the listeners requests will be considered in making changes to the radio station and in 2006 WIMZ will be Knoxville's #1 choice when turning on the radio.

This sounds like the most intelligent move that a radio station has done in years. It seems like no one listens to their audience anymore.

I just wonder though if this a marketing scheme to get listeners to think that they're getting some kinda say-so in what the station does, or will they really listen to thier audience and make changes based on what the listeners say.

Sounds like the stations heads are pumping sunshine up the listeners rearend, seriously doubt if they'll listen to the small amount of listeners who
take time to respond...But hey,it makes the average person think they have a shot in what's being played...We'll see...

Bizarre....so South Central is going to program against their own Jack station by offering a more variety format on IMZ????

Maybe they they should call this new format "Phil" in honor of the only guy that brought them ratings in the first place!

booger!

I also think the is just a marketing ploy to make the listeners think they actually have a say in the programming of "Their" radio station. This has been tried in other markets, especially Nashville, and besides the addition of a few songs or artist, there is little change in the variety of the music being played. 105.9 The Rock tried this "Marketing" ploy several years and I didn't hear any significant changes in their programming until Jack-FM hit the Nashville airways in May of this year.

Actually WIMZ has done it before...along with every other Knoxville radio
station in the past...

I think they will probably lean more towards the mid to late 60's classic rock. They've kinda neglected that area for quite some time - and some awesome rock came from that time period. They might pick up some of the lighter stuff from the 70's too (like Jim Croce, Pure Prarie League and stuff like that) they used to play that fairly often. I too think this is just to make people think they're getting say-so in what the station plays. But, South Central always has been good about adjusting their stations to what the listeners want. Only thing is - too much change to WIMZ will make it almost identical to Jack-FM minus the disco stuff.

IMZ should just go ahead and flip to country and take a piece of the frogs pie....They would never knock off the toad, but if they could get a nice
chunk, that would be just like winning....in a way..

IMZ did the same gimmick back in 87 or so. "Call us and tell us what you like and what you want". I called in and said "I love the block party weekends" and they actually used my drop in a station promo. Stuff like that about more variety, etc. Nothing really changed but the smoke and mirrors was done right and it made it SOUND like the music was better when in fact it was the same playlist.

I seriously doubt IMZ will change anything and I don't see them adding Jim Croce and the like but I could be wrong. And maybe they WILL decide to go deep on the playlist and play "Starship Trooper" by Yes and stuff like that. GUess we'll wait and see but since I live 500 miles from Knoxville I'll have to read about it here.
