Changes Coming to WSAH-DT 7/1

I just read on the New England TV Board that effective 7/1/09 WSAH-DT (licensed to Bridgeport) which is carried on many NYC-area cable and satellite systems will become the latest affiliate of the Retro Television Network. WSAH-DT becomes the 2nd station owned my MultiCultural Broadcasting to become an RTN affiliate. Sister station WMFP in Boston flipped in late May.

I am not aware of any NY or NJ cable systems that carry WSAH.

Cablevision Westchester

Any word yet on what shows will make it into the schedule? I would love to see Emergency, Incredible Hulk, Magnum PI, Kate & Allie, and Simon & Simon. Most of the other shows listed on the RTV website don't appeal to me at all.

WSAH disappeard on Dish Network. Cryptic graphic says Dish knows it's off and is working to get it back on. The said the same thing when WNYE disappeared. it never came back. Just my luck when SAH may finally soon be worth watching.

Maybe DISH is having trouble picking up WSAH's signal? I know WSAH is not having any technical problems since its crystal clear on my parents cable in Southington, CT on COX Digital Channels 75 and 73.

Where I used to live my landlord had DISH NETWORK. I had a box in my room. As part of the local Hartford/New Haven channels we got WHCT-LP Channel 38 the local Azteca America affiliate. That station is a technical nightmare. Whatever the station was using to pick up the feed of Azteca America was out of whack for the longest time and the station was unwatchable. It only cleared up when they aired local non-network commercials. And as soon as the network stuff came back so did the technical problems. Sometimes (especially during severe weather) they would lose the feed and broadcast a blank screen. With WHCT-38 Hartford, CT in the corner or the screen. That's when DISH would remove the channel and replace it with Please Do Not Call. We are aware of the Problem and will Return this station as soon as possible.

We had a satellite receiver failure at 21:00 - 21:40 on June 9. It has been fine since, did you actually LOOK again?

I'd rather wait till Neal and Sean make the official announcement, but...

Yes to all but Hulk. Guess you'll have to wait till that comes around again on SyFy.

Glad to see WSAH back up on my Dish. It was a short lived outage.

I hope the station will make a real effort to build this and not clutter up the day with a lot of infomercials. I came from 15 years at a brokered radio station. it paid the bills, bought us two new Nautel 50kw transmitters, beautiful new studios and I never had a paycheck bounce, so I know it's a money make...But I'd like to see RTN as unencumbered as possible. Good luck with the launch..I'll be watching!!!

According to a source on another message board:

"Spoke to someone at WSAH (203-881-1153). they said switch will occur at 6PM tonight, but they will only be broadcasting retro TV 6PM- Midnight daily, rest of time will continue to be paid programming."

Looks like WSAH is not going to follow VeteranPD's master plan for success...

Did RTV launch yet? I'm out of town and can't check.

Today's July 1st, right? I checked at midnight, nothing. I checked today after work, nothing. I'll keep checking every now and then. But unfortunately I don't know when the switch to RTN will occur. I figured it would have already happened. But, can you tell I'm excited? lol ;D

Well Ron, it's better than nothing...now I would usually say something about Billy Mays, but given the recent events, it's good judgment not to say anything. I can say this, expect a letter from me soon.

Very disappointing that only 6 hours per day will be devoted to RTN. Was that the original plan when RTV was announced last month? Seems kind of misleading to me. Was it an RTV decision or WSAH decision? Isn't Multicultural's RTN affiliate in Boston full time? I was really looking forward to catching some episodes of 'Emergency' but I guess that won't be happening.

I agree. Very disappointing. As stated earlier, I understand that informercials make money and WSAH is probably going to take a hit on the bottom line to give up 6 hours of priime programming time. I wonder if they have to pay for these shows or if there is a barter arrangement.
I never said I had "a master plan for success" as someone claimed in an earlier post. I'm simply stating my personal viewing preference. IMHO, informercial should be limited to midnight to 7 a.m.
I had a feeling, from "square-one" that Arthur Liu would never be willing to build the bulk of the broadcast day around this.
I'd like to be wrong.

True, but it's not like RTN is running commercial free. There is still plenty of money to be made through advertising during the RTN shows. Depending on the show's popularity WSAH could potentially be making more money than they would by airing a paid program during the same time slot.

As I said... if you have problems with the lineup, hit the contact links at Retro's website or contact them on Facebook. If you have trouble with the amount of time, get your feelings to me in some form of printed word (internet forum's do not count). I will gather them up and forward them on to my upper management. USPS mail is preferred, but email works too.

We are not seeing the return on investment in Boston that was promised. Some within the MTBL hierarchy wanted to kill the whole deal, but Sean managed to swing 6p to 12a. Some things need time, and we are hoping that Boston will pick up in the coming months. It's only been about a month and these things take time.

Has there been any advertising for RTN so that people know to tune in to WSAH? If I didn't read these message boards daily I never in a million years would have tuned to WSAH or known RTN was there.
