Changes coming to XM/BPM

Major changes are coming Xm's BPM 81 on the 9th...

Will they finally act like a real dance station and not an automated jukebox?

Option 1:
Consolidation. We'll hear more boring house and more annoying hardcore because XM/80 or XM/82 is flipping.

Option 2:
Stunt. Tell people something and they'll believe it. No actual changes...just a few new sweepers, ala 'bpm breakout track'.

Option 3:
Mikeo and Dalton are taking it over.

Option 4:
ALL NEW BPM DANCE BUNNIES! THAT'S RIGHT, REAL NUDE GIRLS LIVE IN THE STUDIO TO BREATHE INTO THE MIC DURING THE SEGUES*

This is the promo:
"It's coming to an XM Radio near you. DUI, United Nation, Flight 81, The BPM Project, The Spin Factor, The Skyy Show. And that's just January. XM 81 BPM revolutionizing dance radio with all-new shows, countdowns, personalities, and of course, music. Monday, January 9th, 3 east, noon west, the revolution begins."

I'm looking forward to this. Let's hope this 'revolution' is worth it.

I hope it's the direction for which we all ask.
______________

Maybe.

I have to say, Sirius dance sounded absolutely fantastic this weekend with the lineup on BBC Radio 1, The Beat and Area 33.

Most of what I have heard and have been reading is that BPM has hit an all time low and Sky is destroying the station I wish BPM the best of luck but think sirius dance is much better =o)

I agree that "BPM" has went downhill in a HUGE way in the past couple of months since Skyy has taken over. It might as well be called "Circuit 81" now, because that cheesy NYC House sound is all they are playing now. They should have left Alan Freed in charge because, musically, he did a MUCH better job. If they add more dj's and personality, then I do think that is a good move and I welcome it; but if they continue this refocusing on nothing but NYC "diva" House, then I won't be listening. Don't get me wrong, I like some of the NYC House stuff, but I just don't want it all the time. My favorite stuff has always been the Euro-vocal-trance, and "BPM" used to play a lot of this. However, since Skyy has taken over, the amount of Euro-trance sounding stuff has dramatically decreased and now you are lucky to hear 1 of these an hour. Sure the variety and depth of the playlist has increased, but it's all been NYC House stuff. (even the "Backspins" are now nothing but 90's house). What about artists like Lasgo, 4 Strings, Ian Van Dahl, Armin Van Buuren, Darude, Kate Ryan, Fragma, DJ Sammy, Angel City, QED, Ago, Paul Van Dyk, Andain, Lazard, Foggy, Perpetous Dreamer, etc. This awesome euro-trance music was a big part of "BPM", and it has been virtually removed since Skyy's arrival.

I am willing to keep an open mind and I hope that maybe on 1/9 when the new shows and dj's begin that the sound will be more balanced. But if not, and the non-stop focus on NYC House continues, then the only revolution will be the sound of my radio dial "revolving" away from BPM and XM.

Well, it's the 9th

Sounds the same to me.
______________

Re: Well, it's the 9th

Apparently, they've added more mixshows (or possibly just rescheduled the ones they had?) - there is now a "DUI" block on Thursday nights for 4 hours starting at 7 ET / 10 PT and a block on Friday nights that runs for 10 hours, which I forget the name of at the moment. It would help if they had updated their website on the 9th also.

Also, there seems to be a bit more of an effort to be "live and local" - as much as one can be on satellite anyway. :)

I heard Alan Freed give a time check - something to the effect of "It's 20 after 7, 6, 5, and 4 from the east to the west" - and he took submissions for a special version of "Global DJs - San Francisco" where he (apparently) removed some of the vocals in the original, and read names of various cities that listeners had either called in or IMed in from over the music. It didn't work for me that well because he kind of used a flat affect, and although he did match his speech to the beat well enough, it didn't really blow me away. It wasn't a bad idea to increase listener involvement/interaction however. Maybe a better idea would have been to record the phoners saying or singing their respective cities and use that, interspersed with Alan himself saying a few that had been IMed in?

He also did some cross-promotion of XM Traffic & Weather, and mentioned which cities had a "Jam Alert", but I remember hearing him do that last year also.
