Changes for Air 1's original signals

I notice that KLRD Yucapia/Riverside CA and KXRD Victor Valley have changed call signs to KXVF and KXVT respectively. Yucapia's 90.1 was once known as K-LORD and was later to become Air 1 a network of Christian CHR's nationwide.

Could EMF be changing these two signals to different programming or even a different format.

I'm surprised they are giving up those legacy calls.

Beyond that, the possible station names I can come up with:
1. The X Station (intellectual property obtained from WAY-FM?)
2. The Cross (hence the "X")
3. Xtreme (Radio? Music? Hits? Life? (one of these))

FWIW, I would be interested to see EMF launch a new format, as IMO they have mellowed out Air1 too much. However - I would be surprised if the new format was heavily focused on harder rock. I think it would be great, original, and interesting if the format was focused on hip-hop. But neither hard rock or hip-hop seems too realistic to me.

Unfortunately, the best guess I have is that if they do change the name of Air1, that they probably wouldn't make significant changes to the musical content, even though that would probably help.

Something else that would be interesting to me is if these two stations (KXVF, KXVT) are the only EMF stations to change to the new format, or whether the whole Air1 network of stations is reformatted.

They might just be changing the calls to make them more in line with other EMF call signs.

Air1 also changed call letters of two stations near my southern Indiana hometown on March 1st. WSOH New Washington, IN (Louisville, KY fringe) and WJYC Delhi Hills, OH (Cincinnati) were changed to WARA and WORI respectively. I too wondered if a format change was coming because I did not understand why EMF would trouble themselves with new calls. I mean, they only air them at the top of the hour anyway.

I would love to see Air1 venture more towards the harder and hotter stuff, sort of like RadioU in Columbus. Who knows if that will happen though.

If Air1 were being split into two or more formats, something that happened elsewhere in Kentucky now makes more sense: the Danville, KY (pop. 12000) affiliate, which has a CP to move closer to Lexington (pop. 260000), took the calls WLAI, while the station that is being leased for Air1 in Lexington, WVRB, did not. WVRB would be more likely to take the new format, while WLAI would remain Air1.

The "Louisville" and Cincinnati changes make more sense, because the old calls date from previous ownership. EMF now has both a WARA and a KARA (Williams, CA); KORI is taken by a country station in the Shreveport market.<P ID="signature">______________

I don't know what EMF is doing but I had to comment because I think the guesses by everyone are way off track. The guesses are wishes much more then reality I think.

I think it is very, very, very unlikely EMF is making a 3rd format. I know they did try a praise format a few years ago. They certainly would not call a new network after a name Way-Fm had. And to say they would change the name of air1 is really grasping at straws. That is not what is happening.

EMF changes most of their call letters to stand for either K-Love or air1. But these new calls do not stand for air1 as there is no A, I, R, or 1. So my best guess is that K-Love is coming to KVXF 90.1 Yucaipa, CA & KVXT 89.5 Victorville CA.

EMF call letters with a "K" and a "V" usually stand for K-Love. I am pretty sure the "X' does not stand for cross. The "X" as in math or engineering is just a filler letter. I don't know for sure what the "F" and "T" stand for. But "V" and the "T' together kind of goes with Victorville. That could be it giving it a double meaning of K-Love and Victorville. The "F" does not seem to fit and could just be a random letter picked as it becomes harder to get calls with K, L, and V's together as they have used alot up.

Perhaps they want to try K-Love if the support has not been as strong as EMF wants there. And EMF usually likes to have K-Love in an area first and then air1. And the Los Angeles/Riverside area is the only part of California where K-Love is not at. These were only air1 because they were the original air1 stations when EMF bought them to start a hotter network. And that is what makes this interesting to see what happens.

Then look for the long time KLRD & KXRD calls to end up an 2 other air1 stations. I say that because EMF has applied for those calls according to an fcc call sign query. It does not say what stations though. It just says that on April 30 EMF has requested them.

I see only 2 other possibilites which I doubt. I only mention them to brainstorm any other remote possibilities.

1) EMF has done a station swap with someone else in the Riverside, CA area or elsewhere. Maybe putting air1 on another frequency there.

2) It was a mistake that the the calls were changed and they are switching them back.

KLRD & KXRD are back

The KLRD calls are back on 90.1 Yucaipa, CA and KXRD is back on 89.5 Victorville, CA as of April 6.
