Changes in Columbia?

Okay, I'm hearing that Citadel in Columbia is about to do some changes with one or more of their sticks. Anybody know anything? They swore their sales staffs to secrecy, so it must be something significant.

Haven't heard that. Bet Oldies goes with Real Oldies and IMUS. Maybe B106 goes CHR/Pop/Hot AC?

Or, is Double O taking over? Citadel has been rumored to be considering paring down a number of markets.

They are in a good position in the market right now strategically. Any changes must be prompted by a desire to take Clear Channel down or, more importantly, reduce non-line costs.

I couldn't edit my last post.

I still can't see strategically why any changes would be made.

BUT, if there were, here's my prediction: Oldies 103 to Imus/True Oldies; WLXC to CHR; WTCB refocuses on Warm AC instead of straddling the fence. You've got females and adults 12-grave.

WLTY's recent performances show that the Variety Hits thing is about as done as done can be in the market.

Hmmmm....I doubt they'd mess with B now - bet it's Oldies. Citadel flipped WJZW in D.C. and WYAY in Atlanta to True Oldies just this month - much cheaper than running it live.

Oldies DID just get a new website though, guess that doesn't mean anything though.

Every Citadel station nationwide got a new website, it seems. The Citadel templates look a heck of a lot better than the cookie-cutter ones Clear Channel uses.

I know this probaly wouldn't make sense, but WIS Radio on 106.7 sounds good (with Gamecock Football). Move B to 103.1. (That would open up WNOK to become Hot AC and another stick in town to debut top 40) As for 107.5, move "The Game" to 1320 and put Oldies on there. Again, just my ideas. LoL

Neil

Why would you even think of putting WISW on 106.7? I would change WISW format to a music in stead of the boring talk format and put Imus on in the morning 8)

Anybody who thinks B is a candidate for change should change careers, and sell what they're smoking. It must be good stuff!

Great line! B106 has managed to swing between the fenceposts from way soft AC to Bright AC to Variety AC and back with success. It's the one really bright light in the cluster. Not my taste, as I have said before, but a lot of folks like what they do. A real question will be how long Citadel is willing to dish out the salaries for local sports talk shows on The Game. Albeit most of the folks there are already on staff for the cluster ala All Brent Johnson, all the time.

Nothing can be left alone! They must sit for hours trying to think what else can we mess with! As terrestrial radio numbers continue to slide.

Of course, April 1st is Tuesday, and the rumors could just be the 'setting of the table' for an elaborate April Fools' prank. People would be talking about it for years if a prank was pulled that sucked in everyone...including the entire broadcast media. Jonathan has always been a 10th degree black belt at that kind of stuff and I know for a fact that there are those that would love to outprank the prankster. On your guard, folks. lol

Too funny Stoker. The funny thing is that consistency is the name of the game in this business, yet the folks with all the research that would enable them to keep a much more steady hand of the tiller are the ones always knee-jerking and blowing things up.

I worked the grapevine a litle bit. Not sure whether this is accurate, but the winds are saying Oldies 103.1 goes to 98.5 and Kiss 98.5 goes to 103.1.

It's official. I heard 98.5 saying all day that Tuesday, April 1st they are moving to 103.1 as "Kiss 103-1". I would assume oldies goes on 98.5 Why the switch?

Neil

Doesn't 'OMG have better coverage of Columbia than 98.5? I think their coverage goes more southwest.

Wonder if 98.5 will go True Oldies with Imus in the AM. If not, wonder what kind of handle they'll use...Oldies 98? Oldies 98.5? 98.5 WLXC? I'm assuming the WLXC calls would stay on 98.5..

I was listening to Oldies 103 this morning and someone called to ask why they were changing the format.

They said they were moving to 98.5 because "it has a bigger and better signal," which really depends on where you are I guess. Looks to me like they are both 6000 watts, but 98.5 is out of Lexington.

Of course, that is April Fool's Day so you never know.

Okay, I got the scoop. WLXC's signal is weakest where they need to be strong (downtown Columbia and Northeast). That's where WOMG's tower is. And WLXC signal is strongest where Oldies needs to be, in heavily white Lexington County. So they are swapping so WLXC can make a better run at WWDM.

It's not a joke because they are doing a bunch of TV and newspaper. Plus, Oldies 103 will now be known as Magic 98.5. All this is confirmed from within the Citadel building.

My question is are they going to swap call letters or remain the same as what they were? It wouould not hurt my feelings if the oldies station wouold just dump Woody and opt for a tighter play list. I had a chance to listen to True Oldies 106.7 out of Atlanta last week and even though it is a satellite feed, it sounds really good and the music mix was much better than what I have heard out of WOMG for several years. I know that thye need to do something to perk up those numbers on the oldies station as well.

WOW!!! It all comes full circle... R&B back to 103.1!!! Seems like this is the early 80's all over again... This will be interesting to see how this all plays out... CC1

For WLXC to make a better run at WWDM, they need one of the other urbans to flip formats. Only so many urban shares in the market.

Funny thing is that when Barry Brown flipped Power to oldies in 1989, it was Magic 103.1.
