changes in Cookeville

That group of stations is the one that Larry Stone (formerly of Citadel-Nashville and who still moonlights as the executive producer/gameday host on Titans Radio) recently bought over there.

He has a strong news/talk and journalistic background. It's not surprising at all that he would flip a classic country AM stick over to N/T.

I'd be interested in seeing the Beat's ratings in that college town if 100.9 didn't splatter all over it. Their signal reaches past cookeville very well, but is bled over near 100.9 translator. I like 106.9, but don't understand why they don't flip to Hip/Hop & R& B. Country white folk like their beats too and there seems to be a void there.

Look at demo's of full time residents of Putnam County. Hip Hop would do as well as liberal talk. When I went to Tech it was a "suitcase" college. Friday after the last class there is a huge exodus of students as large number having parents within a couple of hours of Cookeville. Granted a lot of white kids listen to Hip Hop especially if their parents like country. (Cool teen rule #1: Listen to music that drives your parents crazy.)

That area is still very much a farming community..even in this day and age..my family is from that area..Cookeville, Gainsboro..and I've been going there every day for over ten years on my job...its a pretty big town with more radio stations than one would imagine...NN is correct...most students go there because it is so close to their home..and they head back for the weekend..and one thing i've noticed..there are very few minorities compared to other towns....when you pull up at a red light here you hear the usual profanity laced crap...up there..primarily country is what is playing on their car radios...or gospel...

I graduated from college only a few years ago - a local, private, Christian school at that. You'd be surprised how many white kids in polos listen to hip hop to show off their fancy systems. (It drives me insane personally). Same is true for the Bubba Sparkx demographic of white country bumpkins, in Cookeville, haha. I feel confident cookeville could support a class A hiphop r&b station - just look at how much Magic 98.5 has transitioned from AC to Top40/some hip hop over the last 7 years. We'll have to agree to disagree. =)

I would really like a 24/7 sports station in Cookeville. WATX was for a while,at least close to 24/7. i can't remember what they put on when they dropped Imus.

yea great voice...is he a local ?? or is he piped in ??
I believe he owns a news service used by several Middle Tennessee stations. LOcalized news at an affordable price.. I'm surprised more stations don't use him.

If it's the guy that I'm thinking of who does voiceover work for Nashville stations, he does all that from his own home. Gotta be a pretty cool gig, and he won't get fired from it! He does traffic, too, if it's the same guy. Some of these local rinky-dink stations (particularly the AMs) probably couldn't afford such a guy any other way.

It's not that guy, but he used to work for that guy. But working from the house is nice. He tell me.

I hear he's only up late because his second job (also from home) keeps him up til at least 1AM, giving him about two hours sleep a night til his 330am wake up call to visit News Central. That guy's job would kill most people. And Eldon Burgess rocked!
