Changes in Corpus

Not sure when this happened, sorry if it is old news.

Delilah is now on 107.3 in the evenings and Tesh is on KKBA. Seems to fit both stations better. KKBA is able to keep the rhythmic AC music mix on Tesh's show instead of completely mellowing out at night.

That may be the case, but the music mix definitely seemed to perk up at night on KKBA after the shift. An improvement in my view :)

Just read that 107.3 is in stunt mode as "Beatles 107.3" until 9am Friday.

Both shows are music customizable.

While I know Tesh is, are you sure about Delilah being music customizable? She used to follow a very rigid clock, and it was definitely the same feed on all stations, except in New York, where WLTW airs its own feed. I also had the pleasure of working for one of her affiliates, and I've seen the satellite equipment needed to get her show!

If Delilah is locally-enabled, it's a recent development.

Wiki says Delilah is available in Soft AC, Hot AC, Gold based AC, Canadian, and of course Christmas. It also mentions the custom mix for New York. In these modern times I can see it being almost a voice track service only requiring the songs she uses as dedications and the rest of the music being up to the local station.

Wonder what 107.3 is up to. Maybe something or nothing at all. KMXR is on top of the ratings and could use some oldies/classic hits competition. 107.3 does stream so those out of market can check out the all-Beatles stunting format if desired.

My bet, knowing Kent.... look for the return of JAKE 107.3

(big thumbs up!) Always did like that station only because thats my sons name. He would smile or giggle when we heard them say it while listening in the car

It'll have to be from the archives. It's a dirt lot now. And on John Sartain st.

Wonder what ever happened to that "KITE" neon sign?

My dad had told me it was torn down. Very sad! That building had a lot of memories in it. My dad was PD there from 1970-72, and we walked in on one of his part-timers having a pot party in the control room on a Saturday night when I was about 10. If those walls could talk, there'd be some stories. A lot of great talent came in and out of both KEYS and KITE. KEYS was my first radio job, and I worked at KITE. I have pics from when it was painted red, white, and blue, for the Bi-Centennial, but don't have any of the building in its original state. As for the neon sign, that's a good question! I'll e-mail Chuck Dunaway, and see if he knows what happened to it. The guy who bought KITE and changed the calls to his initials may have thrown it out.

Yes, the old KEYS building has been nothing but dirt for several years now. My heart sank when I drove "down the hill" to see it on one of my visits to Corpus Christi. Oddly, the rest of the block is still intact. I have no idea why they tore it down, but it does not appear to have had anyone else in it after KITE moved out. It was very old and probably needed a lot of repair.

Somewhere in my voluminous collection of photos of all things radio in Corpus Christi I have probably hundreds of photos of that building, starting from just before KEYS moved out to after the renovations and KITE moving in. I worked there when it was a Beautiful Music station in the early 1980's, then again several other times over the next six or seven years. I also have a lot of shots of my second stint there after KITE flipped to Urban around 1983 or 1984 (Marc Discoll was the PD), then even more photos from my third stint there when it became Hot AC Power 105 (Bob O'Neal was the PD). I left just as Jim Zippo was coming in, so Tod and I missed each other by a few weeks (Hi Tod!).

I'll see if I can find some of my photos and scan them for anyone who's interested. I'm pretty sure that I even have some of the neon sign. If anyone's interested contact me directly.

Take care,

Hi Lance! My e-mail is [email protected] or [email protected]. I thought we worked together at KITE briefly. Maybe it was KZFM? Anyway, it's been too long buddy! I had some old KEYS surveys with my dad's pic on the front, and the KEYS building on the back, but have lost them in the move. I have some pics in an album of the KEYS building painted red, white, and blue, but I was wanting to have pics of the building the way it looked when I was a kid, or when it was KITE. The control room windows were bigger and not bullet proof when it was KEYS. When KITE moved in, they made the windows smaller, and I think the windows were bulletproof. One night, I was on the air on KITE at about 9pm, when this guy was looking in the window, and watching the turntable spin, and then he'd look up at me, and then back at the turntable. It was a pretty creepy place to be at night. I don't think I could ever drive down that hill again. It would be too sad. I'm sure that building was full of asbestos.
