CHANGES in January to WHJY

Heard from someone who does not work on Oxford st that Geoff Charles or Paul and Al are on the chopping block............

That's the latest rumour.....

Clear Channel is opening up plenty of slots for amateurs to come along who'll work for next to nothing. That's what this who thing is about. "MONEY". If you thought that Clear Channel Radio stations sounded bad before........... just wait till the New year!

skynet4...

Don't make the "clear channel radio stations" the only bad guys here. Hiring amateurs or radio wannabees (who will work for nothing) has no exclusivity with any particular company.

When "bottom line" takes the priority over the on-air product...it's the owners that are killing the medium that most of us (in or out of the business) REALLY LOVE! :-*

Honestly... If Charles get axed from HJY, it wouldn't be a bad thing. His breaks are not compelling, I've heard him use the same "quick ones" over and over again. Back in the late 90's with Laurenti and the Troll, Charles ruled. Now it's hard to listen to him, his show is pretty much based solely on 420. Doug Palmieri would have been good for PM drive.

*My Opinion Only*

When Charles worked at WPRO, I considered him the local Howard Stern. That station backed his crazy bits and ideas for a while. Charles was creative and fun. His show was very entertaining. Young Charles was simply Awsome Radio. Unfortunately Charles has turned into something not quite so compelling these days. He now comes across like he has soured on life. I still like the guy. But unfortunately older bitter Charles isn't as funny as young hungry Charles.

While I think CC and many of the other companies could do decent radio while retaining quality local content, this continually repeated notion about "the bottom line" being more important is getting old. Of course a company, whether they own 1 or 1,000 station(s) is the bottom line. Nobody has the obligation to lose money to air what you want to hear. If you don't like that, write to the FCC come license renewal time, and when they throw your (and every complaint) into a file in some backroom, blame the lazy bureaucrats, not the company

This is very true. I also have no obligation to tune into your radio station if I think it sucks.

Yes, but anytime someone puts on programming that makes money and doesn't care if they get a 1, a 0.5, or a 0, people cry fowl.

I can appreciate the business end of things. I realize that there is probably a reason for what happens. However as a listener I'm not required to care about the business end of it. I just want entertaining and informative programming. If I don't get it than I'm gone. Then I'll come here and gripe about it.

In the process 10 people will typically think I'm an A-hole. Usually they work for the particular station I'm bashing. 10 other people will think I'm great for speaking my mind. They also work for the station I'm bashing. :)

Then of course one lonely person at Radio-info.com is counting how many complaints are coming into their e-mail Box because of something I said. LOL

Bottom line is........ I Love this place. Merry Christmas to you all.

If anyone is on the chopping block early next year I'd bet Charles rather than Paul and Al. Moneywise more would be saved by cutting the morning duo but they've saved a bundle over the last month there anyway. Charles is a dinosaur. I give him credit for lasting this long and he does have the ability to do talk if you like that kind of talk but no one who doesn't already listen to him is gonna start now. Replacing the morning show will be harder. Brangiforte can just go solo afternoons and people will complain but they'll listen anyway and if Corwin isn't immune to complaints by now he'll never be. Then there's always that possibility of moving Q&C to afternoons.....or even mornings.

I'd say middays would go before the afternoon or night show. They'll voice track it from another station like they have all other middays in the building. That'll be the January move.

Middays at HJY would be less of a cost cutting move than the other shifts & the way things are going it's the higher paid people that are being cut. Regardless of numbers or popularity people in other markets who are actually winning in their time slots are being let go. Also, only B101 is tracked from out of town. Coast is still local unless something has changed I'm not aware of.

Unconfirmed reports are John Depetro has gotten his first tattoo and will be starting on HJY on Jan 2nd.

Romeny's group purchased Clear Channel, remember when his group purchased I thin k it is STaples? Many persons lost their jobs .

Such a charitable religious man he is.

I liked Maria, in fact, I overall enjoyed the stimulation, thought process of all the talk hosts.

I hope they dont get rid of middays at whjy or at least jen. hope they don't voice track like they do on coast middays and b101 middays. i mean are they trying to make more people turn away from their stations? i dont like to listen to quinn and cantera at all. if they moved them up, i dont think i would listen to hjy much anymore

Why are people saying Coast is vt'd middays? I thought Chris Eagan was live. If he's vt'd then he does it in house. I don't think he's in another market.

..Well if you ask me, Brangiforte can handle afternoons on his own. He has done it before. Pluse he is their music director and since he has started I have heard alot of deeper tracks than I have heard in a while. So no matter what happens at HJY if anything I am sure he will do just fine with or without people bitching.

Eagan is off the air and demoted from music director as well. hes doing production duties over at cc. some people are calling it a promotion but when you're taken off the air and your title is given to someone else, i dont see that as a promotion. a familair voice should be heard on middays soon on coast. and yes it will be voice tracked...
