Capital Public Radio is looking for an energetic and dynamic person to become the local news voice for our five NPR news/talk stations in Northern California and Western Nevada. The successful applicant will join CPR’s growing news team and work closely with our Morning Edition host. He or she will deliver local newscasts during Morning Edition between 5 am and 9 am, and then, produce spot and feature length stories for airing on CPR’s newsmagazine and talk shows; file spots and feature stories with NPR and other national outlets, and produce newsmaker interviews. The ideal candidate is a strong, experienced journalist with advanced reporting and interviewing abilities that reflect NPR style and quality.
Required qualifications include: a bachelor’s degree in journalism or related field, or equivalent work experience for at least 4 years; excellent written and verbal skills; ability to cover breaking news, even while on air; solid technical abilities in the control room, with field recording equipment and high computer literacy. Some public radio news experience and a record of producing high quality, long form reporting preferred. Competitive salary and excellent benefits.
