Changes in the Evansville-Henderson ADI

The switch was made with little fanfare as promoted in Union County, KY, WMSK-FM (95.3 class "A") licensed to Morganfield moved to the new allocation of 101.3, (Sturgis, KY...Union County's "Second City"..Ha-Ha!) with a full Class "A" signal that will continue Traditional Country and local flavors of sports, etc...The owner of that frequency paid to make the swap to get the newly re-allocated 95.3 (class "C2) that was moved to Corydon, KY (closer to Henderson and Evansville in Henderson County, KY)...That 25kW Directional puts a 60dBU over all but north Newburgh and Boonville in the Evansville metro... The 54dBU fully covers the main population of the Evansville-Henderson metro and ADI... They are WEZG and are stunting all Christmas music and plan to be a throwback to Easy-MOR (If the sources I talk to are correct).... Meanwhile there are things in the works to move one TOC station north of Evansville another ten miles further up the road, in turn another metro station that is owned by TOC can relocate their antenna to put the 54dBU totally over the metro.....Simular to the way Engelbrecht (South Central's owner's son) did with Boonville a few years back at 107.1 (on the opposite side of the metro)..... Of course alot of wonder why the School Corporation's WPSR was the first to go HD...They felt they could afford it in the consolidation of the Southern Indiana Career & Technical Center's new campus off US 41 on Lynch Road near the airport... Their antenna is still at Central High School and they are looking at trying to redo their power and HAAT, as they are currently horizontal, only and about 13.5/14kW @ about 150 feet HAAT... They could better be serving their license with a taller HAAT and circular polarized signal at a lower ERP..... That's the latest from the heart of "E-VILLE"... 8)

Great. Another so-called rimshot taking aim at Evansville. (Isn't it a Class C3, not a C2?) If you divide all the money in Evansville by two (between South Central and Regent; Mostly South Central), then that leaves what? The few mom and pop restaurants, the pawn shops and the used car lots on Highway 41?

As I recall, the last time I was in Evansville, I saw the 7 second "legal IDs" on the television stations being sponsored by ambulance chasing attorneys and a couple of car dealers in Owensboro, Kentucky. If the TV guys are scraping that kind of rust off the bottom of the revenue barrel, then it certainly doesn't say much about the future of the leading MOR station in Corydon, Kentucky.

WPSR? So, has the school corporation down there finally solved all it's financial problems? Weren't they laying off teachers and nurses a couple years ago? The general public aware that they've got enough money in the saving account to buy an HD transmitter? (Come to think of it, they'll probably reach more listeners in HD than a MOR station in Kentucky.) Still, that just seems like there's something ascue with the priorities with the administrators.

Lastly, I'm sorry that I don't know, but what's "TOC" an abbreviation for?

Yep... I have to agree to a point on the selling of the "ID" times... Kind of milking it, I think?? But, then again, I remember a former Daytimer AM north of Evansville (it has a DA at night, now) that used to sell the sign-off of the AM to a funeral home in Vincennes and Lawrenceville (IN-IL)....I used to laugh at that when I heard it in the late sixties (their FM went until 10:pm in those days)... I will give kudos to South Central that still lets each station reach for a local and professional sound... With the exception of "Jack", they have a live presence that most others don't...
(TOC...The Original Company)....

More changes coming: ESPN is going away on 94.9 at the end of the year.

(I should note that I don't know what 94.9 is going to become)

It may be a rimshot, but it will have a slightly better signal than WGBF-FM. All in all, it's not going to be a bad signal. Don't know if they'll do anything to become competitive, though.

Guys...
When properly 'juiced'...94.9 puts a wonderful 54 (50/10) dBU over Evansville and Henderson... The only weak area in the ADI is that Madisonville (non-metro) has a translator at 94.9 for Heartland's WVHM and Owensboro (which is not a ARB market, anymore and a seperate ADI mixed in with E'ville) has a 94.7 that knocks it for a loop north, and east of O'boro...

If you look at the accepted plot of the 60dBU of WEZG at 95.3 (Yes, C2)... It covers the metro better than 107.1 or 103.1 and the sixty is all over Evansville-Henderson proper and the 54 covers the northeast flank that is slightly directional.... It' s current approved site is WGBF's FM tower a two miles south of the city limit of Henderson, between US-60 and Alternate US-41....'GBF's Class "A" signal suffers to the north due to the shortspaced situation with Lawrenceville-Vincennes' WAKO-FM (Stu Lankford's Station).... 95.3 is a very clear place on the dial... Sullivan, IN near Terre Haute and Paoli, IN between Bloomington and Louisville have Class "A" facilities, but 95.3 will cover the heart of the Evansville money population local.....

Someone needs to go Hip Hop/R&B in that town, Regent should look at that for WDKS.

Personally, I wish Regent would acquire this new 95.3 and spit out 103.1, move WGBF-FM to 95.3, it would give a better signal for the rock format.

That wouldn't be a bad move, if I were in the king's seat.... I thought they might have done that earlier with 105.3, when they were ready to dump country and went AC with WJLT... Of course, as Oldies/Superhits they've done far beyond expectations with 105.3, since... Never can seem to figure out the radio gurus in this ADI..... "Skip"

January 10th and Christmas music is still the king on 95.3???? Whazz-Up-Wit-Dat??????
