Changes @ KEYE in Austin....Ron Oliveira is out.

It was, apparently, unexpected.

http://www.austin360.com/blogs/cont..._wont_renew_ron_oliveiras_contract.html/#jump

“I was informed that the corporate office in Baltimore decided not to renew my contract,” he said. “No reason was given. It took me by total surprise. I’m heartbroken because I love what I do.”

Prediction...he finds a home within 30 days. And he's not the only one to bail on this Sinclair ship.

Oliveira is the latest in a long line of well-known broadcasters to depart KEYE in recent months, including chief meteorologist Troy Kimmel, anchor/reporter Jason Wheeler and news director Suzanne Black.

Kimmel — another Austin TV veteran — voluntarily left in December, telling the American-Statesman that Maryland-based Sinclair Broadcast Group, which acquired KEYE in 2011, had “a different weather philosophy” and wanted to “go a different direction.”

Big mistake. Ron is a fixture on Austin TV. I'm sure he will reappear elsewhere on the TV dial sooner rather than later.

Strangest quote ever: "a different weather philosophy” ???

In other words, we're going to try to save some money.

His replacement's been named. Never heard of her, but she apparently got good reviews up in Columbus.
