CHANGES OFFICIAL AT GATOR COUNTRY

Well the changes at Gator Country are official now...the whole Zoo team that left (All Three) are now parked at Gator come Wed June 20 when they will get to be on air. With that Michele and Jeff are off until that day as well....wow...this was intresting...I did record the announcment...and it was an intresting one. Later.

After thinking about this all day I am adding a few words here....One I think this is the best decisions made by Renda Broadcasting in a long time and BIG thanks goes to PD Jeff Davis...his station deserves one great morning show and he found the right show to put on it after two years in Jacksonville. He wants to make sure he gets that 5 share plus and if all goes well he is on his way to it. Just one thing...add a night DJ please....I would like to see an all request show in the night. Otherwise I will say Gator Country is on its way now to knocking QIK off and causing stiff competition for the market. I say a radio station can't be successful during the day unless you have a killer morning show that will keep the listners listening after 10 am. Sounds like the good old days of Jacksonville radio are coming back soon. LET THE COUNTRY MUSIC STATION BATTLE BEGIN....THREE SHOW TEAM vs THREE SHOW TEAM.....YEEHAW!!!!

P.S. To Rooster Country: Just flip the station....your no match for Gator and QIK....its time for you all to go...this is only a two country station market that has three stations and Rooster is now one too many.

Later.......

Good to see enthusiasm is alive and well in your post - especially in routing for your favorite "team."

Yes, an excellent decision on Renda's part to hire the former Morning Zoo. Interersting too is that management has validated what I talk about all the time - killer talent can help generate numbers and provide momentum to a station far better than "card readers" and endless music sweeps. (This is not a shot at Dallas- just an observation)

And while nothing is impossible in the long run, keep in mind 'QIK has about 4 times the audience as Gator. A 5 share is possible but I suspect a lot of that would result from sharing QIK's cume. Radio listening has not changed much in the decades I've observed listener behavior. And what does not change is station loyalty overnight - it generally takes a lot of time.

It will be interesting to see how Renda promotes this event. I suspect they recognize the lucrative position they will be in if they make the Gator a major contender. If they resort to limited promotion, hoping for the best and counting on listeners to switch on their own, then even with a killer morning show, they will be locked in the mid 3's. Renda's move.

When I first heard about all this, I thought about another benefit for Renda Broadcasting. I'm sure this has stretched their Jax budget big time and so even if Scott Walker was in consideration for the PD position at WEJZ, they couldn't pay him what he thought he was worth. And so now the guy who was mediocre at best in this market earns a PD position in the #10 market. Hey, I give him credit - he certainly knows how to toot his own horn. If I were at WEJZ, I'd be happy Scott was not in the building.

Perhaps another post for another day, but I think the jury is still out for Movin' 100.7. With the format being so new, I suspect Renda Broadcasting does not want to commit a lot of $$$ to the station. Obviously, the Morning Zoo did not wind up there. I know virtually nothing about the format but it appears, despite some early promotion, the station seems to just be on it's own - just as KOOL 100.7 was. I really don't know what to make of Movin' - perhaps all is fine.

All in all, Renda has a good mix of formats in Jax.

Bit o trivia. Back last century Eden worked for lite. Cant remember if they were Renda or not back then.

;D ;D Back last century, I remember working for lite too..."Bud Lite"

I heard something the other day that was interesting.... WAPE and Cox are fighting the return of the team to Gator Country saying that their none compete was not up when Gator started promoting the show last week.... is this true..... and why would WAPE be worried since they no longer wanted them six months ago?

If I were a gambler I think it would be a very good bet there are even more changes coming in the Renda camp in the not too distant future, and not just with Gator. Has anyone sat down and looked at all the changes that have taken place at Renda both on and off the air. I realize both Cox and CC have made some moves over the past 2 years, but Renda has been the least stable operator in the Jax market. Listeners resist change when it comes to what they expect from their radio station. P1's are creatures of habit, even small programming changes can push them down the dial. WQIK has been the same station that it is today for years. I believe that is one of the many reasons WQKI has been the #1 station in Jax for some time now. I realize from a billing stand point they are not at the top, but that station is generating the kind of dollars a country station should with those ratings. I just think it is risky to make so many programming changes in such a short period of time when it takes so long to build your core P1's. The key is to find the right programming that will attract the most listeners in your target demo for a long time. Then you start to increase your P2's and P3's who are the P1's from other stations. That's how you get to the top in ratings. The P1's from your competition will bring revenue to your station if you're not constantly changing your on air product.....That's my 2 cents which I am sure there are others on this board that know alot more about this stuff than I do...

Just to play the devil's advocate as far as changes at Renda are concerned, remember the words of Captain Ramius in "The Hunt For Red October"... "sometimes a little revolution now and then is a healthy thing". A musical shakeup at WEJZ has revitalized a sleeping giant ... Don't forget it wasn't too long ago that they had down right gaudy numbers, and Arthur & Valerie are out and out pros - maybe not the flashiest model in the showroom, but rock solid. Same is true with the old Zoo, who will bring P2's and P3's from APE to Gator, and will make GNE a very attractive choice for young country listeners. One station at a time, Renda is being PROactive, rather than REactive ... initiating change on their own, rather than waiting on someone else to, and there's never been a better time.
Cox radio is losing revenue at a catastrophic pace, and CC does nothing close to exciting with it's properties. With the arrival of the old Zoo, could GNE be ready to make a mark on QIK? They've never had any REAL competition, and Gator hands them their a** as far as music goes ... Who knows? Maybe David CAN slay Goliath again?

;D ;DTED......E........BEAR......ROCKS....ON........THE MIGHTY 690

I can't argue with your reasoning on any level Bear. It's just a bit hard to believe that Renda will stick with a game plan and make it work with any station they have in the market. The track record is not there. It makes no difference who the GM is, corporate always steps in that big pile and tracks it all over the building sooner or later. It happens at Cox, CC, and Renda.

It will happen again and again...count on it.

  :eek:Mark My Words, It's gonna change.. The DAZE of CC and other Corporate Sheninagins are about to come to a "Screeching Halt"" The End is Near.. You can Trust the Big APE Ask Kahuna!!!
