My Cousin is a Minister of some big church here in houston on the Ella St Area. Well he curently has a show on Channel 21 in baytown. Well he was talking about he is about to have his show air on knws 51. Well to be more clear his church is straight in spanish. So is this a change at the station to have spanish shows? Expecially since The Rockets are going back to My Network 20 tv?

well yeah Maybe, I didnt really pay no attention to him, but I will sure ask him what time.

I would be absolutely astonished if KNWS went Spanish. I believe that KNWS is the only English speaking independent station left in Houston. Sounds to me like his spot would most likely end up sandwiched between two infomercials of Gunthy-Renker products in the wee hours of the morning. Of course, stranger things have happened. Who'd have thought CFL football games would be shown here in Houston on 55 "The Tube"? Why the hell would we care about the Saskatchewan Rough Riders way down here on the Gulf Coast?

The CFL isn't a local production; it's from the America One Television Network, with which KTBU is affiliated. That's like asking why the San Diego/Denver NFL game was shown in Houston last weekend.

Wait a minute. Are you actually comparing the NFL to the CFL? In the deep South? Of the United States? I'd like to see a sample rating of any regular season NFL game, and to be fair put it up against the CFL's Grey Cup game. You mentioned the Chargers/Broncos game of last weekend. I am will to bet that even two of the lower tier teams like the Browns and Falcons shown on Houston TV would be a better draw here than anything the CFL could ever produce. I'm sure that the opposite would hold true north of the border where the CFL would appeal much more to most Canadian viewers than NFL. You must be the exception. Good for you. Go Tiger Cats! ;D

Wow. You completely missed the point, so let me try again.

KTBU is an America One network affiliate. They broadcast what the network sends. The network broadcasts the CFL. Why? Probably because they get a sports product on the cheap. They couldn't care less what Houston wants - they don't program for Houston. Same thing for Arizona, where America One affiliates are all over the state (but not in Phoenix or Tucson, so I don't get A1 where I live). KTBU has chosen to take the America One network feed. Why? Probably for the same reason - cheap. I doubt they care whether or not Houston is interested in the CFL.

The only link with the NFL is the fact that KHOU, KRIV and KPRC broadcast whatever their networks send them, just like KTBU does. Nothing more, nothing less. KTBU has no more control over their programming than the other network stations have over theirs. That's why the CFL is on "The Tube".

I did miss the point entirely. I had always thought that television stations guaged their success by the ratings they recieve for their programming in any given time slot, and I couldn't imagine how the CFL could draw anything higher than a 0.0 during it's allotment of time. My mistake was putting The Tube on an equal playing field with the likes of 11, 13, 2, and 26. That was ignorant on my part. Ratings be damned! Stay tuned for another episode of Magnum P.I., next on 55 The Tube.

Yes and no. It's all about making money, so if running a lower cost, lower rated program is more profitable than a higher cost, higher rated program, then they run it. How else do you explain infomercials? The traditional network affiliates, KPRC, KHOU, KTRK, and even KRIV, also take community reputation into account, but I doubt that your minor stations do. Many of those have minimal local presence, if at all. No local news, no local promotion. And most people couldn't care less.

It's not just that KTBU is cheap -- they were recently bought by the company that operates the America One network, so they're really now an O&O.

I stand corrected.

USFR Media Group owns both KTBU and America One. In fact, USFR Media Group is based in Houston, so I guess that probably makes KTBU its flagship station.

So there you are: what America One programs, "The Tube" and Houston get. I still hold my opinion on why America One broadcasts the CFL of all things.
