Changes SNR in progress

Ben Maller.com is reporting that Coppock along with several other SNR personalities have been let go by the network. Rick Ballou mentioned last week before he went on vacation some changes in his shift were on the horizon.

Chet Coppock, veteran Chicago sportscaster, was fired from his show on Sporting News Radio, according to a BENMALLER.com radio mole.

"Coppock on Sports," ran weekends from 7pm till 11pm.

Senior producer Dustin Rhoades was also given the boot. The network is for sale and is having major budget problems.

According to Benmaller.com, Chet was not fired. He quit because he saw where the network was going.

I have absolutely no respect for that guy (Coppock), because in his spare time he is a "scamdicapper," in cahoots with Wayne Root and Big Al, and he makes money by selling sports gambling picks and lying about his record. Good riddance to him.

I think it was a mutual decision. SNR wanted Coppock to take a 20% pay cut and he refused. He'll probably get another radio or TV gig in Chicago sometime down the line, assuming he hasn't burned all his bridges there. Having not been a Coppock fan, going back to his days at WISH-TV in Indianapolis in the '70s, I can't say I'll miss him.

Looks like Sporting News Radio isn't long for this world. If a multi-zillionaire like Paul Allen can't (or won't) keep it going, who can?

Yesterday in the first story on Benmaller.com he had reported that in fact he was fired. It was corrected today. READ THE STORY!!!!!! ******

> Wow Scream, you made a post without bashing FSR. Can't Petros with his 2 hour radio show on a station that gets a ZERO share save SNR? Tony is already working for 1/3 of what he made at FSR, can't he help Paul Allen save the network? Ashwood is making money and FSR looks strong while SNR is looking to dump talent or sell.

Assuming you want Tony to start a Weird Al/UHF-style fund raising campaign, well... even though I admit I'd love to see - or hear - that myself ;)

I knew in my heart all along that three all-sports networks couldn't succeed. And lo and behold. But let's be, *ahem*, "real" here: (I'm sorry!)

FSR is still alive due to two words: Clear Channel. They run the network via Premiere, and it helps with clearing affils. (It's not just limited to CC-owned sports talkers: hell, my daily radio station of choice - an independantly owned N/T, no less - clears FSR.)

What I take issue with Mr. Ashwood here (and pretty much every one else on this board) is the unstable programming lineup. Yes, the right shows eventually make it - but after five different attempts? That can't go on forever, realdeal9, and you and I know this.

ESPN will be alive for eons to come because of the power of it's television parent, and of Disney, it's overall parent. That leaves SNR as the odd net out now. Oh, if only you could gamble in Ohio... I would certainally start a line on how long SNR did last...

Actually, I know for a fact Bruno is working for free, a 100% reduction in pay. What a bad career move for him! So silly! Plus, he calls Ashwood every evening, begging for a second chance. So very sad. Plus FSR has a 100% share in every market in which it competes with Tony. Does this spell disaster? Plus, running a repeat of Czaban in the 12-3 ET slot instead of a live original show is pure unadulterated genius! Soon, Ashwood will be repeating the morning show the other 18 hours of the day! And he will be rolling in dough. Kajillions in profit. Now, Scream, you are rilly rilly getting the Real Squeal!

I was wondering why Chet hadn't been on the last couple of weeks. I may be the only here who does, but I liked Chet. I hope he can find another gig.

IIRC, WEOL clears FSR because of my so-called "Tammy Bruce" effect, where Savage affiliates having TRN crapola shoved down their throats. Premiere says, "you want Glenn Beck? We have this great thing called FSR."

Here in Indianapolis WNDE dumped FSR's Morning show for Bruno's SNR Show and a lot of FSR affiliates either dont carry the FSR Morning show by Carrying a local show or Bruno's show

I concur. But don't forget that AP All News Radio - which previously occupied those slots, ergo their "News Station" nickname - went out of buisness last July. WEOL HAD to find something, and Premiere forced their hand.

Bruno's show isn't in AMD except on the west coast. Am I missing something?

Yeah, there's just not enough syndication out there to fill all the hours. :)
