There's a new station in town. 107.7 The Highway. WMPX gets an FM translator.

Midlanders who tune into WMPX 1490 AM on Friday will find a changed format as well as a new FM sister station.
The format is now classic country and is simulcast on the new station, W299CK FM, found at 107.7 on the dial, according to Tom Steel, who owns both stations. Listeners will hear music by Garth Brooks, Alan Jackson, Randy Travis, Toby Keith and Reba McEntire, he said.

The format will offer local news, live high school sports, Northwood University football, weather and information on local events, Steel said.

That took a while. I recall WMPX was an applicant for an FM back in the 70s. Apparently, "that" FM became WRCI. (Now WKQZ) After an period of time, they bought the "new" Beaverton 97.7, and simulcast for a long while.

You don't find a lot of stations keeping a format that long anymore.

Ragging me about Google has generated more posts to the Michigan board
than any topic in about five years apparently.
