Changes To The North

There are posts on the New Jersey board that the EBC Indian programming on WTTM 1680 Princeton is moving to WWTR 1170 in Sommerville, central NJ. This means several things to the Philadelphia area. First, many of us in the northern suburbs who listen to the WMTR "Classic Oldies" simulcast on 1170 will lose this, as 1250 is harder to pick up here. Secondly, WTTM on the EBC website promoted serving the Philadelphia market - which daytimer WWTR really doesn't.
Will they then try & buy time also on a station here? There are also rumors that 1680 WTTM will return to ESPN programming - it was there years back - so then what happens to "Philadelphia's Real Sports Station" 920 WPHY?

1680 has applied to move to a tower in Camden. I believe it is a standing tower but I don't think it is currently used by another AM. The ground system will be undersized but the tower height is well over 1/4 wave at 1680 so the predicted efficiency is OK. I was under the impression that, after the move, 1680 was going to run ESPN. However, I don't think that, after the move, there will be a lot of signal overlap with 1170 or 920, so wouldn't brokered ethnic be a lot more profitable than being Philadelphia's third (or fourth) sports-talk station--and the only one on an ex-band frequency? Even with the relatively low levels of nighttime co-channel interference on ex-band, the groundwave signal can't cover much territory with only 1000W at almost 2 MHz.

No offense intended towards this proud ethnic group, but the historic call sign that once hosted the likes of Ernie Kovacs, WTTM, is moving to Lindenwald and features a format of 100% belly-dancing music.

OH BOY! The area is FINALLY getting a DANCE station!
