Changes to WBOW-FM

Has anyone heard when the changes are going to occur at 102.7?? I keep hearing the old jingle that maybe suggests that oldies maybe next, but I can't help to think that their just teasing.

I hope that's the case but I'm wondering why WAXI's sign was left on the building? Also as mentioned on another post, 102.7 was going to again air Delilah. Would this be a good fit for an oldies format? I'll wait and see like everyone else.

I'm hoping it is going to be Oldies or Soft A/C. I think they can do much better than they are now with either format. I ran into someone who used to work there, and he told me that they were thinking news talk before 98.5 flipped.

However if 102.7 does take on Oldies, where does that leave their 104.9 signal? I say they go

Oldies - 102.7
Country - 104.9
Add ESPN to 92.7 all day, or leave Mike & Mike on the AM and go rock the rest of the day.

My fearless prediction.

WBOW is NOT going oldies. Changes coming tomorrow at 3pm. Count on it.

I got that bet for $20.00. Anyone else want a piece of the action! ;D

i went to ISU back in the 70's and WBOW was the Top-40 station, they would be silly not to cash in on that "Heritage" and take classic hits over there with a better signal.

R&R says that they will do a rotating format every 15 min until they pick a format on the 13th. Sounds like what they have been doing all along.
On another note....
I heard on old WBOW jingle on B-102. I wonder if they have a clue that's illegal for them to air that? The license on TM jingles are for 2 years and that package was from the 70's... plus the current station and owners were not the orginal purchasers. Pirates are not only off the coast of Africa! I bet TM would love to know that. ;D

it's easier to ask for forgivness than permission.

From what I understand, when Crossroads got the WBOW calls they put them on 1300 and later pruchesed WLEZ and changed to WBOW. At that time I know that several employes suggested with the at then GM to do just that. From that day to this, 102.7 has had poor ratings. I can't see them now, (years later) that they would do that. Your going to be teased untill the 13th and I feel your going to get lite rock. Sad but true. As for the old jingle, did anyone sue XM when their 60's @ 6 did their heritage show?? It featured several old jingles from stations across the US.

where's my 20 bucks? and the wheel won't stop on oldies.

I O U $20.00

I guess it's easy to know the details when you are spinning the wheel. Good stunt but wAAAAAAy to long. I will check it out on the 13th but I really hope that it is something new that you guys have not done in the past.

If you flip this thing to some sort of mainstream ac it will not be good for you. All the consultants and all the owners want to be told that AC is a safe bet and that it makes money. When you ask them what format you should go with...they arleady know what they are going to say. They can see the dollar signs (from you) and they give the easy answer. That format has never been strong in this market and it never will be. Rock, Top 40, Country...those are the true money makers in this market. I want to see someone come in and take out Emmis. Those guys are so far above everyone else it's crazy. No one in this market will ever matter except to compete for second place until HI 99 is take out. How do you do that...not sure but that is what has to happen to make this a fun competitive market. Right now...it's just a fight for second place. In stead of Crossroads & Midwest going head to head the two companies should be concertrating on the guys by the tracks. That should be the target of every radio station in the area and if you work anywhere but Hi or River and think differently...you will fail at your job. Barry Kent is on top and how long has he been there. What other radio people in management are still here that started with him????? None. Get it together and attack the Big Dog and forget the stupid competition for left overs. Let me clue everyone in...when you are getting your numbers doubled and you are in second or third or sixth or whatever place...YOU SUCK!

Ok...i'm off my soap box. :D

Dude you're right about everything except I don't work there. But I don't blame you for thinking I do. Hell I don't even live in Indiana, or even Illinois for that matter, I'm just...connected. I know where the wheel stops but I'm not going to spoil all the fun. And I don't think you can expect anybody to knock off HI99, the format kills, end of story. They aren't the only example, WFMS would be another. They've been number one for what, 35 years?? Just too much inbreeding in this part of the country for that type of format to ever take a back seat to music with an IQ. You know, because Britney is just so smart....LOL. Ok off MY soap box now.

It is confirmed. The new format will be oldies. WAXI will be all sports (mostly local) and the Crock will stay as it is.

Confirmation obtained from a VERY reliable source.

LMAO! Can I have some of what you're smoking?? Please? I haven't had any that good since at least 1982.

I have to say I like their style on the big tease, but you're right, too long!! I can't imagine someone at crossroads leaking info., particularly in this stage of the game. They are only telling you what they want you to know and I bet they are having a heck of a good time creating the buzz. Heck I have to admit that this makes radio interesting in Terre Haute if only for a short while. Crossroads, please don't let us down with something that you've tried in the past and it failed. I hope you did your research wisely instead of going with something that stuck to the wall like you have in the past. I do wish you well because I have a feeling that this might be your last chance.

wow... someone who actually gets it... I am sure that the emmis folks are glad that you dont work for the idiots at midwest or crossroads.

I stand corrected. This information was obtained from one of the "major" radio websites and verified by at least 3 others. "Indiana’s Wabash Valley kicks in the slow jams with the best of easy listening! 102.7 FM is the place to park your radio tuner. Enjoy the most recent hits from The Fray, John Mayer, and Kelly Clarkson, or relive timeless hits from Cyndi Lauper and Madonna. Catch Adam, Doug, and Julie in the mornings with all of your local news and tomorrow's headlines today, enjoy all of your favorite lite rock tunes throughout the day, then stick around for Delilah, weeknights starting at 7."

Though it was a different era Soft Rock was tried, without succuess, on MGI (I think then it was VTS) back in the early 80s. I remember the great billboards: "Get Your Rock Soft."
I have been reading all the ideas for what formats might work on 102.7. No one seems to be thinking "outside the box."
The world needs another soft rock station like we need another McDonalds.

So, guys, what’s the new format? Or, hasn’t it been revealed yet. Outsiders are dying to know, so spill, please? Please? Please?

Also, what’s “HI99?” That sounds like a good name for a station.
