Changes to WTVN?

Just heard a promo followed by John Corby mentioning that on Monday he will be announcing changes coming to WTVN. Does anyone know anything about this?

Also, Progressive 1230 AM may be dropping the Air America network because it's site also has the 'Changes are Coming' logo here:

http://www.progressive1230.com/main.html

So, is 1230 Dropping Air America?? If so, would some of the present WTVN programming move over to the 1230-AM channel and open up more local talk shows for WTVN??

It's probably something small like John will be on from 3-7 instead of 3-6. They've been known to overhype things in the past.

They did move some syndicated programs off WLW to WKRC in Cincy in favor of local talkers. Wonder if they're going to try that here. It worked in Cincy. And then again, maybe it's just a bunch of CC hooey.
BTW...Rush was once on WCOL AM 1230..when they were running satellite oldies in the early 90's.

During the time Rush was on 1230, he had somewhere between a 7 and 9 share. I doubt he could duplicate that now, but in his heyday, he was able to kick butt on a 1000 watt peanut whistle.

Is this the big 'changes' we have been hearing about??
In any case, it's nice to know that WTVN is now relaying on a trusted local Weather Forecaster.
The out of town forecaster that were using previously using seemed to get the weather forecasts wrong most of the time.

610 WTVN and WBNS-10TV Announce Joint Weather Agreement
Dec 22 2006 1:42PM
Columbus, Ohio WBNS-10TV and NewsRadio 610 WTVN announced a partnership that will bring the expertise of the Doppler 10 Weather Team to regular forecasts, throughout the day, on 610 WTVN.

Starting the broadcast day with The Bob Conners Show at 5:30 a.m., Live Doppler 10 Meteorologist Mike Davis will give central Ohio listeners the most trusted forecast in central Ohio based off of the area's only Live Doppler Radar; Live Doppler 10 StormTracker.

I have to disagree with your statement:
The out of town forecaster that were using previously using seemed to get the weather forecasts wrong most of the time.
Pat's forecasts were usually VERY accurate. I, for one, will miss him!

New Lineup:

6-9 BC
9-12 Joel
12-3 Rush
3-7 Corby
7-10 Sean Hannity
10-12 Mark Levin

Good changes, in my opinion. Local, live is always great. Plus... an extra hour of Corby's show is great in my book. I wonder if they'll push back the Big Bass Brother's restaurant review to 6:00 on Fridays... I typically miss the first part of it, since I am not off of work by then. Many complain on here about syndicated shows.... well, WTVN just got more local.

Also, I'll miss Pat Pagano, but i don't know many people who listen to a radio station for a guy who is on 5 minutes/day. I do think he was accurate, however, many times I heard the weather being inaccurate. I think the weather change should be good. I would rather have my weather from Central Ohio... not from Long Island, NY.

I am ABSOLUTELY in favor of as much LOCAL content as we can get. While I will miss Pat, I have to admit Chris Bradley is, in my opinion, the most accurate local weather-head.

I guess I am somewhat baffled, with 4 of 6 shows being syndicated, why they are pushing the "local" angle... Why not do something local in the evenings too?

Hey Brucie - I'll talk for food!

Funny, but I remember a few years ago TVN saying it didn't matter where the weather man was. I guess if you get a better deal, you can come up with a good reason.

You should have done the fill in for Corby, Dave Maetzold is a D grade radio talker.

"1230 will become a sister talk station (without the current liberal lineup) to 610."

The lineup, starting 1/8/07, will be: Quinn and Rose (out of Pittsburgh; recently added
to WHJJ in RI), Laura Ingraham, sports guy Jim Rome, money guy Dave Ramsey, and
Michael Savage. Call letters said to be changing to WYTS (Your Talk Station?)

raccoonradio,
You and I are likely thinking the sme way. How is it "your talk radio" without a HINT of local content?

There is talent in Columbus, there are slots in Columbus, there are also decision makers that are too scared to CONSIDER taking a chance on something different and too cheap to pay for it. It's sad. Using 1230 to experiment with some potential local talent could in no way hurt that company any more than it is hurting already. Make 1230 the farm team, that's fine. There are plenty of hopefuls that would gladly be a part of that game. When they banished Cornell McCleary from WTVN, I thought, hoped, that maybe they would move him to 1230. I HATED his sound, but he brought something different to Columbus radio. With guidance and opportunity, I think he could have made an impact. The weekend talk talent that is local is only on WTVN and -I'm sorry, I truly don't mean to be nasty or rude, but we all have opinions - I can't stand what I hear. Radio was different, dangerous, innovative and a part of the listener's life. That's what made it great. Does anybody remember where the instruction manual is?

Yes. In Prov RI, at WHJJ, CC got rid of two of their three local hosts (they had Helen Glover, Howie Barte, and
Arlene Violet, and only kept Glover...now there is talk that John DePetro, who was banished from WRKO
over a couple controversial incidents, is in talks with CC to come back to 'HJJ...maybe they'd put him on
in place of Glover and again, still do just one local slot. (Citadel's WPRO, across town, ran an ad in the
Prov. Journal pointing out the less-local content of WHJJ saying 'Do you want your talk radio from
Providence or New York City?'

Less local, more syndie = cheaply run radio. Cheap Channel. Nothing wrong with some syndie shows but
local is key, and WTPG won't be. Though I guess WTVN did replace the syndie Beck with local.

And what's ironic about CC in Boston is that during much of their run as Boston's Prog. Talk, they didn't put on any local hosts. Finally they put a guy named Jeff Santos on--once a week. So they turn to Spanish as
Rumba, and the news is "unlike most similar stations, local talent/DJs will be used". So apparently CC has money to spend for local DJs in espanol, but not for local talk hosts..."C.C., senor..."

1230 hasn't been local for years... whatever format they run. I can't recall if they had live/VT'ed DJs when they made their short stint as WCOL-revisited but as WFII, WZNW, WTPG and now as WYTS... all syndicated. This signal is a throwaway to CC-Columbus making no real money not that they have a staff of their own to sell it, just piggy-backing on 610 sales.

The only way 1230 ever goes local or gets a decent chance at survival is if it is in different ownership hands. My 2 cents.

That signal (1230) has been viewed as a throwaway for years, pre-dating CC ownership. During the consolidation sales and swaps, I recall one company being quite open about the fact that they took 1230 grudgingly, didn't really want it. I believe it was the late and lamented Nationwide Broadcasting, when they bought WCOL AM/FM from Great Trails.

WCOL's "Real Oldies" incarnation did have Cool Bobby B voicetracking from Cincinnati afternoons, and I believe a local morning host.
