Changing my presets

The Phoenix boards are usally the first place that I visit when logging on, until now.

You'd think, by reading the boards everyday that KTAR and KFYI were the only stations in the market. Geez.

Is there nothing else to talk about? Please don't get me wrong, Dr. Akbar, Zumahans and the rest of the regulars are totally entertaining, but I am sick of only reading about the two news/talkers in Phoenix, ALL THE FREAKING TIME!

There is so much more to talk about, speculate on and just plain make up a bunch of crap about that to have to constantly come here and read about KTAR and KFYI is enough to make me want to not even take them time come here.

I realize that there are KFYI and KTAR empoyees triggering all of this nonsense, but I would ask that we move onto something else.

You know who you are. Let it go. I will see you all when there is something more interesting to talk about.

Thanks

Let's talk about the other things that are going on in Phoenix radio.

Ummm... KDKB is going Spanish, oh wait, that was just a stunt. And a really crappy excuse for a stunt.

What else of note is happening? Is anyone trying anything different?

David, start some freaking posts about other stations!

Its one thing to whine, another to take action.

There is no passion left for music radio on the FM dial.
Just a bit of scorn after the flop of a stunt on KDKB.

For the 186th time, Nurse Jeff and I are NOT on the payroll of KFWhyEye or News 92~three, where Hip Hop used to live. Having said that, who is crazy enough to predict when we'll hear All XMAS Music on KEZ?

David:

Change makes news. And right now, KTAR's re-invention of itself as an FM station and KFYI's reaction (or lack thereof) to it is what's happening.

The issue of KKFR's new frequency and coverage was discussed extensively. KDKB got lots of cyber-ink on this board when it looked like change was imminent. There's been some discussion of who will make the jump to the Movin' format, and when (or if) someone in the market does, that'll probably be topic number one.

Beyond that? KOOL is stable. So are KYOT, Mix, KUPD, The Peak, Mega, KEZ, KSLX, Enegy, KNIX, The Edge, KISS-FM and KMLE. There's little local to talk about on Free FM or most of the AM stations that aren't KTAR or KFYI and get some, most or all of their programming from the satellite. And so far as I can tell (my apologies if I'm wrong), about the only person here qualified to discuss the Spanish-language stations, what they're doing and what it means, is David Eduardo (Old Gringo).

There are the personalities, but apart from those on KTAR and KFYI, what have you got? Stablility. Bill Gardiner, Cliff Smith, Chris Parker, John Holmberg, Scott Drake, Beth & Bill, Tim & Willy, Chuck Powell, John Jay & Rich, Dave Pratt and Danny Davis are all doing what they do every morning. No surprises, no controversy. Other jocks in other timeslots do little more than read the liners and introduce the traffic report.

Maybe when the summer book hits on Monday, there'll be big stuff to talk about, but right now, KTAR and KFYI really are the story.

Michael--
I think zumahansnews94 just crossed you off his Christmas card list for that remark.
But don't worry, you'll get two from the Buckeye Media Hut.

The Hags been on our Beth & Bill approved Christmas Card list for years. We've known him since he was an upstart PD running Perry Mason & Andy Griffith reruns on a little Phoenix UHF. Now he's doing Frasier & Jim Belushi reruns in living color!

Speaking of non KT'R & KFWhyEye material: Friday night while cruising Central in the '76 Gremlin Levi's Special, we picked up something interesting on 94~one...where Native American music lives. Guess KTNN no longer has a lock on the market at nite!

...and beating KTVK, CW6, My45 and i51 with them twice this week! Thanks for watching!

One could always talk or specualte on what will happen with Free FM. This thing just can't seem to get any traction. At what point will Hollander or even the local MM cry uncle?

I gave up on Free FM when Hendrie quit. Leykis is for undersexed 14 year old boys, Heidi Frosty and Frank is just a waste of air time, Carolla is OK, but no great shakes.

I'm surprised it lasted this long...

Speaking of presets, we haven't done the "what are your car radio presets?"
in a while...and it's got to be more entertaining than "is it raining where you are?"

Oops, another KT'R reference. But don't worry David B., for some of the remarks
below I'll get vetoed by Janet and fired by Fox Sports. If I only had a brain!
(Cloud 94.9 Booby & Brad reference)

And remember, you're not a real radio geek unless your presets are left to right
in ascending frequential order. ;D
