So, it appears as if there's more change ahead.

Anyone want to speculate on what happens with some of the "seasoned" radio folk?

We're looking at a time of more uncertainty in Boston radio that in recent memory.

Several stations have identity issues, and change is being reported everywhere.

Think we can discuss this without ripping each other apart please?

I am curious, what have you heard?
The only things I know about right now are the changes at Mix.
What else is happening?

There's the situation at 96.9 FM Talk. Considering that Imus is rumored to be cut once his contract runs out, and Jay Severin is rumored to move to WBZ (a.k.a. 1030 AM Talk) when the new Infinity show starts, the station will have some sort of identity crisis.

Severin is easily the station's most notable local host (yes, he's from Long Island but who cares), and Imus was the building block for the rest of the station, as many of you would recall from the early days (Imus in the Morning, smooth jazz all day). With the rumors of changes at 680 WRKO, the city's talk scene seems to be in a state of uncertainty.

Personally, I think that if Jay Severin's national show ends up being broadcast live during daytime hours that he'll still be on WTKK-96.9.

WBZ-1030 is doing very well with all-news during daytime hours and I doubt they'd want to change that.

The only way I could see Severin's new national show on 'BZ is if it's broadcast live during the evenings or overnights---and possibly also if the show's home base is 1170 Soldiers Field Road.

If Severin's live show ends up being fed from 9 A.M. to 12 Noon ET, I could not only see WTKK broadcasting it live, but 96.9 FM Talk also moving Eagan and Braude to mornings as a replacement for Imus, and perhaps also having Sean Hannity live in the afternoons. I actually think these three moves would make 'TKK stronger.

Plus, you have some recent changes at WBZ with the departures of Jay McQuade and Flo Jonik. They've also tweaked their imaging and formatics as well. If Severin's show does go to WBZ as has been rumored, that could mean a shakeup to their talk lineup as well.

Other than WZLX's new morning show and WBOT moving their stick to Blue Hill, there's not a lot changing right now. Kiss, Jamn', the River, BOS, WROR, WEEI, WKOX/WXKS, Magic, WKLB, WAAF, WFNX, WCRB, Oldies and Mike seem to be holding steady or are making very minor adjustments.

morning radio might be fun again. with howard going away,
the seasoned folk can start being creative again as opposed
to mailing it every day.

uncertainty may provide opportunities that didn't exist before.

yes, wbcn is in trouble without howard. that's a definite.

you bet.

the only place that makes good sense for sydnicated severin is evenings. There is no alternative program to Savage. 9am is already too cluttered with Laura and
Glen Beck, afternoon drive is domintated by Hannity.

If that new show is on WBZ not WTKK, then 96.9 has to make a whole new station. A local morning show, hopefully a new late morning show (Laura live would be a strong move), and new afternoon drive (maybe Sean). Then they can get rid of O'Reilly and do a local midday show.

Whatcha think?

Eagan and Bradue would be a good morning replacement for Imus. In my opinion, Don's show is unlistenable except for some of the guests he has on the program.

If WBZ put on Severin in the evening, what would happen to Paul Sullivan? 7-10 Severin and 10-12 Sullivan? (assuming the Steve L Broadcast stayed on from Midnight to 5am)

Hasn't Severin made several statements on the air about his distaste for A.M.? The bonus about WBZ is the strong signal, AND they stream, which would increase his exposure here. When is 96.9 going to get on the ball and offer streaming?
