Channel 10 News Set

Anyone notice the channel 10 news set the last few days? It appears a lot more dark and dreary as opposed to the way it used to be. Also it appears all closed in and huddled together instead of wide open. Must be some kind of construction going on. Just wondering because I am not sure John and Kari want to appear that close together.

The Morning Show hosts have mentioned several times the station is building a new set for them. They used to have two sets and have moved to the loft while the construction is going on. This may affect other sets too.

It was announced on Friday's 9pm news as well that a new set is coming. I believe the temp set includes elements from the morning set.

The current set debuted in 2005 along with new graphics and the custom-composed Fusion News music package. O&O standardization in 2006 came, but it didn't help matters; 10 would go along for 7 years using elements of the music and even a bit of the graphics, while the set backgrounds still have small "TV" panels featuring the 2005 graphics.

One clue I had that something was up was that last week, I was noticing that weather computers were disappearing from the weather center, one or two a day. I suspected either equipment changes or a set change. Turns out I was right.

Note to Joe in Prescott. So therefore did you make a note that KTVK Channel 3 claims to do breaking news like the latest boutique offerings and store Grand Openings? (Not real news.) 10 and 15 are by far the best with actual news in my own personal opinion but I am sure you disagree.

Have you watched Channel 3 lately??? I would agree with you if it were still 2006, when GMAZ tended to cover the latest boutique offerings or store openings. However, 3TV has become very newsy in the past few years without the obnoxious graphics on 10 and the excessive hype on 15. That said, 15 and 12 are usually my second choice. I very rarely watch 10, as I don't care for their morning team.

Everyone has their own tastes but one reason I like the 10 Morning Show is because Rick D'Amico is an old radio DJ and frequently tells war stories about his former career.

When I have the TV on at 5am during that 15 minutes of rushing to eat breakfast Etc to get to work NOBODY beats the traffic report that Andrea Robinson does. She has saved me so much time throughout the years avoiding traffic tieups. As for the weather Amy and Iris on 15 are the best in the morning. Yes I do have more than on TV on.

Agreed on 3TV. The news product is getting much better and is considerably more serious. Sometimes, however, it comes off as a touch dry.

I also have more than one tv on as well. I happen to think that Gina Maravilla is the BEST traffic anchor in the Valley, although my 12 minute commute rarely has an accident of any kind. As Raymie mentioned, 3TV has improved tremendously.

As landtuna knows, I just don't care for the personalities on 10 and I can't seem to understand when they do traffic and weather in the mornings. 3TV sticks with a short traffic and weather segment on the hour and half-hour with detailed reports at :15 and :45. It's very predictable and Gina and April are knowledgable and pleasant.

It wasn't that long ago when 3TV was christened "The Place with More Fluff". Nowadays I think that describes 10, of all stations. 5 is fairly middle of the road with an emphasis on franchise reporting, 12 is a little sugary sweet (not fluffy, sugary sweet...Lin Sue Cooney doesn't help), and 15 is a KPHO wannabe that's put a lot of hype into their local news.

John and especially Kari love to comment on news, not many long-running reporters (particularly in the past year), and Dave Munsey is nice but aging. Not to mention their frequent chyron errors and awkward graphics. They're fairly strong on sports (Jude la Cava is a big help), and their weekend team is a mixed bag (as long as she's been around, Linda Williams should be anchoring weeknights, but Kristy Siefkin isn't so good).

Compare that to 3TV. Straightforward newscast. Royal Norman is probably better than Dave. OK on sports—much better at high school than 10 (to which there are pretty much no resources devoted unless it's something they'd be covering as news) but a little drier than 10 at times. Anchors can be dry, but Fields Moseley is a big piece of the puzzle, and if Patti goes, hiring a solid female anchor will help (Carey's good but shouldn't be doing every hour). Improving product, better reporters, and news coverage instead of news commentary.

I think it might be appropriate to say that 3 is the best kept secret in town.

I don't see 10 doing remotes form shoe shops or clothing designers coming in to display their stuff during the morning news. That happens on 3 all the time and IT IS NOT NEWS. I still remember 3 doing remote from the flower section of the Fry's down the street from me on this past Valentines Day and broadcasting that Sweet Tomatoes was handing out roses. Again THAT IS NOT NEWS. As for traffic Gina is on maybe twice in a half hour whereas Andrea in on four or five times. So sorry my opinion differs from you. The fluffy one is still 3 and not 10. We all have our own opinions this is the USA after all. But my opinion strongly differs from yours.

Here in Prescott, Channel 10's remote truck was visably absent during the Doce
and Yarnell Fires as well as the tragedy with The Granite Mountain Hotshots.
They were not at Prescott High School, not at Yavapai College nor at the 6th Street
Firehouse, nearly as much as ANY of the other stations. While that
doesn't speak to many other issues, it does speak volumes to those of us here
in Prescott. Perhaps they should be called: "Faux News 10."

I clearly remember Syleste Rodriguez having to stand out there by the side of the road the at 6AM on the morning of the memorial service and Fox 10 interrupting all there programming the day of the service to televise it. So you are not correct on that one. As for when the fire was going on the helicopter showed it more than enough times.

Anita Roman, Andrew Hasbun, Marc Martinez, and Ty Brennan were all reporting from from Yavapai College and the Red Cross shelters during the Doce Fire.
Sounds like a lot of coverage to me.

If you were watching KSAZ's coverage of the fire you saw almost non-stop stories every Morning Show and newscast. I can't say where the truck was but they were on-air very frequently with official updates from the Forest Service as well as civilians who had been affected by the fire. Their chopper was also up taking pictures frequently.

Faux News 10 did some occasional remotes but not nearly as many as the
other stations. I understand that many of Faux News 10's "remotes" were
actually video shot during their limited time here and through the magic
of television, reporters were inserted into the video to give the illusion they
were here. Sort of like how meteorologists stand before the green board.
There were many times when they were showing sunny skies here and yet
in actuality, it was mostly cloudy. Smoke and mirrors I tell you!
