Channel 2 CP

If you look at WSB TV in the FCC data base there are several “repeaters” in Rome, Athens Etc. They have a construction permit that appears to be on the old Channel 2 Analog Tower and are moving from 39 to 32. IIRC the old analog signal worked very well from that site. Of course UHF is different coverage wise. Will the new / old site work better? Will they need the “repeaters” after the CP is completed?

The repeaters in operation are on digital 31 (Athens) and 46 (Gainesville) and they use 2.4 and 2.7 as virtuals. This is to offset interference from Stone Mountain. They have a CP for 17 in Newnan and an application for 14 in Rome. None of those will change their digital positions when main WSB moves its digital to 32 next year (46 could change since the digital spectrum will end at 36, but I don’t think LPTV stations would be affected.) The repeaters would still be operating to ensure WSB is covered throughout metro Atlanta and beyond.

all stations above 36 will have to vacate in the next few years. LPTV stations outside of 36 or ones that are being bumped by a full power station (when the FCC reassigned full power stations to be within the new band) have an opening in April to ask the FCC for new allocations.
