Channel 20 WQDI-LD TV

What is with WQDI-LD Channel 20? For the past several days they seem to be broadcasting a good signal, but all channels are breaking up. Is this some kind of satellite or other trouble at the transmitter? I notice that some of the low power TV stations which broadcast from that short tower just south of downtown Cleveland are often off the air for no reason. I presume that this is some kind of turnkey operation, established primarily to collect carriage fees from the shoppers' networks, but isn't anybody minding the store?
I know. I am livid! I am missing Fighting Fridays on 20.3.

They have wrestling and MMA on Fridays on Ch. 20.3 English language of BeINSports Xtra. The Spanish language version is on KONV Ch. 28.3. Don't put down WQDI-LD or BeIN Sports network. 20.3 is best bet on Fridays. It ain't all just soccer. I hate they took off Stadium. They had wrestling. I am missing all that. Shooting themselves in the foot. Being a LD channel is no excuse to not fix reception. If they don't care they might as well take it off the air for good. Waisting a decent channel for nothing.
Both BeIN and Stadium can be streamed for free and in much better quality on most platforms.

Well, I finally sent a message to HC2 Broadcasting about WQDI-LD. We'll see what happens.

I get that. But I wonder if these services which they are carrying understand that they are paying for dead air, no audio and satellite breakup (WQDI) lasting weeks?

As a former LPTV station owner maybe I can provide some insight. Almost all of these networks that are carried by LPTV stations are either barter or pay per sale/inquiry.

Barter is when the LPTV station doesn't get paid a fee but instead gets a portion of the advertising spots. The better the programming the more viewers the more money the LPTV can make from their advertising spots. Usually the stations get somewhere between 3 and 7 minutes per hour to run their own ads.

Per sale/per inquiry is when a station gets paid every time an item is sold or a call is placed via the unique number. So for home shopping they might get like 8% of every sale, a PI ad might pay $10 every time an item is sold, or a spot collecting leads might pay $20 per lead. Many years ago I remember mesothelioma spots paying $100 per lead.

My guess is HC2 is probably running their stations partly to generate income but mostly to flip later on. They have a ton of cash to just keep paying tower rents for years until someone offers them a good return on their investment. I think they figure once ASTC 3.0 full launches their stations will be worth a lot more.

After sending a 2nd message directly to the licensee, WQDI-LD is now decoding fine as of 12:50 PM. There should be no more breakups now, unless it's reception related.
