Channel 4 Television

I know BBC is consider to be a public broadcasters, and ITV1, Channel 5 considered to be a private commercial broadcasters. What about Channel 4? Is it considered to be a public broadcasting, or a private company? I know channel 4 shows commercial on TV, and in Whales it's known as S4C, which partial times shows Welsh language, and BBC provides Welsh news on this channel.

As with the other thread, sorry for the slow reply.

Channel Four is a public service broadcaster funded by advertising. In the early days Channel Four got a subsidy from the ITV companies, but these days is fully independent.

All you could want to know about Channel Four here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Channel_4

Incidentally in Wales (no 'H') Channel Four now broadcasts full time and can now be found on EPG number 8. S4C no longer shows Channel Four shows and will soon be managed by the BBC.
