Channel 50

I found out a few weeks back that WPXX channel 50 is switching to My Network TV during prime time next week. Apparently according to the schedules I found at Zap2It.com, the i programming will still be on the rest of the day. Now that i is switching to more classic TV shows in prime time, Flinn decides to start carrying the only network that could be worse than i before the recent changes.
REAL brilliant move Doc!

the only thing worse is the PQ on Cable.....

Twarner/Comcast could at least pick it up off 50.1 since they cant seen to do better with the analog... I'm sure its them just flexxing thier attitude since 50 is a full power and falls under must cary.

Ch 50 is operated by ION Media Networks (formerly Paxson Comm.) under an LMA I think.

Flinn is the owner.

Once you start spltting up the HD all you can run is standard definition, and the more channels you put on the fewer bits you have per channel. Running four is pushing it. I know an operator in Colorado that's planning on running six. Yuck.

WBUY-DT is running 5 streams here, as are most of the TBN DTVs. And, yep... you can indeed notice the compression.

Now, WKNO runs a fulltime HD and a fulltime SD on their digital channel. It looks pretty good, indeed. The SD doesn't look that compressed at all.

WMC runs two fulltime SDs in addition to an HD. Those two SDs are compressed bigtime.

It's all about bit budget...

If Channel 50 is being LMA'd by ION, wouldn't they have some say in prime time being changed to MNTV? It seems that would be something they wouldn't want to happen. Also, will i's prime time lineup at least be carried on one of the digital subchannels? Not that I could get it, but I'm just curious.

they SD feed is fine compared what twarner/comcast if feeding over cable... when i had a UHF antenna 200 ft up i could get an LPTV channel from Ashland MS better

when a bunch of engineers and hi tech folks get to talking.....that may as well be frontier jibberish to me
