Channel 51 KNWS-TV, Katy/Houston

I guess I've been under a rock for a while...going through the DTV channels a couple of nights ago, I noticed that between 49-4 and 55-1, there's no channel 51 (KNWS) any more. Are they dark, or off the air for technical reasons, out of business? Not that I ever paid that much attention to the station, but I found it strange for there to be nothing in this size of a market. And, while I'm using bandwidth, has anyone else in Houston noticed the arrival of K10PY running in DTV mode? I happened to catch it running infomercials in Spanish.

51.1 is still there as well at my NW Houston location. Not that there's ever anything to watch on 51, unless you are a glutton for old Rosanne episodes...

Could you give a little more info on this K10PY? i.e. channel, city of origin, etc.

thanks,
pd

At last report K10PY was running just 300 watts from Missouri City. It's licensed to Freeport and really is on channel 10. You can get more info on all U.S. digital stations from the FCC's "TV Query" or at this site from fellow poster tripinva: www.rabbitears.info/

What brand of DTV tuner do you have. I also have problems getting KNWS-DT on my DTV box which is a Zenith/Insignia. I believe they are on channel 52 (DTV). My box shows a good signal, but it will not decode it. I know of someone else who has the same box and also has problem with that channel.

I have the RCA, here in Clear Lake it shows 52% and no breakups ever. Wish I could get PAX/ ION whatever. I also use the DB2 inside FWIW and am able to get KUHT, 8.

From what I can remember, KPXB's temporary channel 5 digital signal is at reduced power and is highly directional with lobes to the NE and SW of Missouri City.

I've got the Insignia (Best Buy) tuner as well. I noticed the problem a few weeks ago...up until then, I had no problems watching anyone. Of course, living 5 miles from the Missouri City antenna farm doesn't hurt.
