Channel 58.1

A recent scan turned up a very weak signal from 58.1 through 58.6. It is all hispanic with a religious channel, Puerto Rican TV, and even one that is labelled "CUBA", which plays mostly news it seems. Anybody know about this? According to wikipedia, the closest channel 58 is in NJ.

Looks like you're picking up WCEA-LD out of Boston. You'll find it on rabbitears.info. Trip lists only 5 subchannels, but his list could be out-of-date; the programming matches your description, with Mas TV on 58.1. It's on RF ch 45, but uses virtual channel 58, which was its old analog channel.

A month and a half ago, it only went up to 58.5, so who knows if something has changed since then. I couldn't even figure out what three of the subchannels had on them.

Correct - I thought it odd that the OP listed WNJB as the nearest ch. 58, but a Wikipedia article is only as good as its author's research. WDPX would have been my first though, but the discription of programming was not Ion's programming.

In any case, Boston is far enough from Vineyard Haven that a co-channel LPTV station was allowed there. Analog WCEA-LP had a severe null to the SE to protect WDPX. Digital WCEA-LD is on a different RF channel, so Vineyard Haven is no longer a problem, to them. Their signal now must avoid interference to full power stations in Hartford CT and Portland ME.

The Hartford station in question is WEDH-TV (PBS) channel 24. They transmit from Rattlesnake Mountain in Farmington, a bit west of Hartford. I doubt it would interfere with this station at all, though.

It doesn't matter if WEDH interferes with WCEA; WCEA cannot cause impermissible interference to WEDH in any part of the latter's coverage area. Same for WMEA Biddeford ME, the other co-channel station.

When I got the channel a 58.6 showed up, but nothing was broadcast.
