Channel 59 New Haven

Here's a different question about Channel 59 in New Haven.

Will LIN-TV run it as an independent station or will they sell it?

It wouldn't be that hard to run 59 (or any other UPN affilate) as an indy tv station. Since UPN is only on 12 hours a week (UPN Prime time 8PM-10PM M-F and UPN Movie 12PM-2PM on Saturdays). Just plug in 5 movies during the 8PM-10PM timeslot and plug in a local movie 12PM-2PM on Saturdays. Just don't put on any more infomercials. They have too many on Saturdays. Since if you count the Shop-At Home Network as an infomercial Channel 59 runs infomercials from 130AM-12PM on Saturdays.

Who could buy it? Maybe Entravision for the Telefutura Network, which is currently only on a Class A Station in Hartford, which isn't on cable.

Just don't sell it to TBN. 59 has potentinal. Let TBN have 26.

As for Hartford/New Haven, here's what I would do:

Close up shop on WRDM-LP (TEL) channel 13 of Hartford.
Put the Telemundo affiliation on WHPX-TV (I) channel 26 of New London/Hartford.
As for channel 59, make sure that it doesn't become a second-rate religious station!<P ID="signature">______________

Here's the problem with that deal:

WRDM is owned by ZGS Television (which also owns WDMR in Springifield). They have the rights for Telemundo Network in a long term contract. If another station wants their Telemundo affilliation, they will have to let ZGS operate the station (whether is WCTX or WHPX). If you have some doubts on that, check the LMA deal in which WNEU in Manchester/Boston simulcasts WTMU-LP 67 in Boston (another station owned by ZGS).

I have no idea what will LIN Television Coorporation would do, but I can assure you they will not put their Spanish service (read: WAPA America). They could operate the station as an independent or get into a LMA with ZGS to bring Telemundo to a full power signal. (LIN owning it (?) and ZGS operating WCTX).

Now, they recently got a low powered station and it's supposed to be moved to Holyoke (to serve the Springfield LMA). There was speculation about that station becoming an UPN affilliate. Will they get the CW network on that channel?

I think it would make more sense to have WCTX-59 as the Telemundo affiliate since they can put a better signal into New Haven, Meriden, New Britain, and Hartford where they will get the most spanish-speaking viewers. WHPX-26 is kind of a fringe signal towards Hartford and New Haven. If you go just west of Hartford, WHPX's signal is almost completely gone. Plus, WHPX already has the "i" network affiliation.
