Channel 65/19 Stopped Paying Rent

While generalities about specific groups may come into play I can't help but note.

In January Channel 65 noted it was terminating it's lease at it's site. Odd. they told the FCC in February they were still operating at the site. Feb 10 has come and gone and they didn't pay their rent.

They have decided not to remove their antenna from the old site, or the tv transmitter. Normally people who stop paying rent at least move the Cadillac when they move. In this case it's still there.

Empowerment being the thing these days I guess there is no reason for them to take any responsibility for their 1000 lb antenna and tv transmitter?

They built a new site at the Cumulus tower on Hawthorne on Channel 19 but didn't file the application until February.

The lawyers at Radio One have indicated they never owned their TV antenna. They are currently being sued by their former accountant because of payola among other things.

What do you do with a 1000 lb TV antenna that will cause public safety issues when it falls?

Don Payne is their Chief. I guess he went along with this swell idea.

I cant really address the ins and outs of this situation. Its a little complicated for my small brain. ;D

But regarding Don Payne, I've known him for 25 years and he's always been a stand-up guy. I dont think he'd be willingly involved in something shady.

He stood up and helped them with this. It's cheaper to have someone else take care of your stuff than to do it yourself. Didn't come out of his budget that way.

Remember when stations paid their bills and did what they said they would do?

It's just unbelieveable someone decides to stop paying rent while their equipment is still there.

Wait, they are empowered.

So do like we used to do in Danvul (Danville) and simply pull the plug on the offender. That gets them paying the bill pretty fast. In our case, it was a paging company, so it affected a lot of people when the lights went out. I can't believe Payne would directly have anything to do with this ::).
