Channel 8 Anchor Gets New Contract

For those who follow TV, the Democrat & Chronicle newspaper reported in its Saturday edition that Channel 8 anchor Kevin Doran's contract was extended until 2015.

Maybe my memory is fading, but I don't remember reading anything in the paper during the past few years about extending contracts for any of the other anchor team members.

If I'm wrong, please correct me.

At least Kevin knows he has a job for another 7 years. Congratulations.

I want to say congratulations because Kevin is one of the genuine-class acts in Rochester - but is it good that he's tied to the Ch 8 ball and chain until 2015?

Congrats, I guess.

Contracts are written to favor the employer. They can probably still let him go anytime they want. And Nexstar's been writing contracts the last couple of years, that force people to pay them money if they want to exit the deal.

If the guy's as good as other posters say, I'm sure he was smart enough to make sure he won't be totally left in the dark.

If he's getting paid a good buck, there's little reason to leave before the deal expires. And if they decide to let him go, hopefully he was smart enough to get a nice severance package in there. Even though contracts do favor the employer (mostly in the form of the non-compete clause), usually the longer you're willing to sign for, the more leeway (and money) you get as an employee.
