Channel 8 Gets New GM

If you read Scott Fybush's column on his website and you will find that Nexstar has hired a new GM to run Channel 8 in Rochester. Once this person settles into his new job it will be interested to see if the following happens.

1. How fast will the new GM hire a news director.

2. If there will be another "purge" of on-air talent.

Only time will tell.

I had heard the middle of last month (March) that interviews for ND were being conducted.

What --or who --is there left to purge? ???Doran has more than a year left on his contract; Maureen, at least another two; Hetsko just signed another six- or seven-year deal...

Contracts can be broken; besides I was referring to the so-called field reporters and other anchors that Eldridge hired. You know the graduates from the Columbia School of Broadcasting.
Meanwhile I'm still waiting to see what's the future for McKinley at WROC when his contact expires. I can't believe he wants to continue working there, especially if some other TV station might be interested in him.

Some of that group came only after 8 took over 31. I wouldn't be suprised to see an anchor or a reporter too let go.

If that station's news operation is going to be taken seriously it will take more that just getting rid of an anchor and reporter. Unfortunately that's been the problem with 8 for years. Just as they find the right mixture of talented people and gain some respectability in this market, some jerk from corporate comes in and gums up the works. It is highly unlikely that this new General Manager at WROC will come in and make any positive changes. Instead he will answer to his corporate masters who are only interested in improving the bottom line and the company's stock.
