CHANNEL 945: THE ENDING OR THE BEGINNING

So is Channel 945 about to flip to a new CHANNEL and CHR/TOP 40 possibly leaves the Dayton area for awhile? OR is something just about to begin for the 9-4-5? Should we expect to hear some jocks and some imaging like when it first started?

My opinion: Drake's leaving everything the same. The jocks have been gone for months now.

If it did happen, it wouldn't be the first time Dayton was without a top 40/CHR. From WTUE's flip to AOR in 1975 to WDJX's debut in 1978, there was no CHR in Dayton (WING had gone A/C by then).

It would be nice for Channel 945 to have some more Jocks, and basically become the main Top 40 station of the Miami Valley. I would recommend posting suggestions on there message boards.

Yeah but I hear that CHR will return to Dayton within a few months whether WDKF is remaining on the air or not. WDKF has a choice. Play dumb like Z93 is stilll here or jump on the bandwagon and start doing something around here!

Channel, here is the problem

Clear Channel, the parent company of Channel 94.5. Bain Capital is about to take over the stations and the first thing they plan on doing is cutting 1 full time staffer from each station.

The other problem is that Clear Channel cut the staff only a few short months ago. They did this as a cost cutting measure to keep the balances happy in San Antonio. The other thing you gotta remember is Channel only put 1.2 million on the books this year. Its not an easy format to sell at all.

Now, if Randy Michaels was still running the company, Channel would get staffed up and so would Mix. However, hes not...and they are trying to trim as much fat as possible before the sale. It was not the PD's decision to have no jocks. It was corporates.

Channel wont staff up, corporate will never approve it. All they can do is hope for the best and pray the music carries them through.

Suggestions for Channel 945 (94.5 WDKF-FM)

STRONGER SIGNAL! Allof the Miami Valley and Northern Cincinnati want to enjoy your radio station!
MUSIC CHOICE I personally thing Channel 945 should take on a Mainstream/Top 40 Station. HOT 102.9 already dominates the Rhythmic/R&B Category, but the Top 40 slot is open now. TAKE IT
ENTERTAINMENT Become more involved in the community, Also I would keep Dave & Jimmy in the Morning, but also would add some shows: Bring back DM people enjoyed it especially Teens the main listeners, Rick Dees why not? Ratings for Rick Dees are a lot higher then American Top 40, plus your the only ones with Rick Dees in the area besides Q102.
OVERALL STATION Get some more Live DJ's, Create your own show...Such as a Lunch Time Show...Friday Night Show..Ect.

Those are my suggestions/comments feel free to add to them.

One Word. Enterprise. If enterprise radio bought Channel 945 that could be a miracle. Look at Q102 Cincinnati, they're owned by Enterprise, one of the best Top 40's around. Enterprise has shown strength in Managing Rock/Alternative/Top 40.

Exactly....sad truth time, Channel is right where Clear Channel wants it.

I wish Bonneville would expand, however...they are focused on their new project when they swallow half of Lincoln Financial with their operations to expand in Charlotte and Denver.

94.5 cant get a bigger signal. Its locked in its place due to short spacing.

Music Choice they can change, but I doubt they will

More DJ's cost money, so does being live and local. Clear Channel runs things on the cheap.

I lol'd. Channel 945 is playing Daughtry, Maroon 5, and shit. I think they really are trying to bring in the Z-93 listeners.

ATTN: Jammin

Just wanted to say thanks for your comments. It's great to see someone with your passion for radio. Sadly a few people think they have some kind of obligation to lecture, finger point and talk down. Don't let them take away that fire you have.

BTW, off the topic, do you know if Bonneville is looking at Lincoln's San Diego cluster? By far the best 2 markets for Lincoln are SD and Denver, Charlottes not bad either (its a rapidly growing market). It would be something if Bonneville could pony up and buy the whole Lincoln shooting match, including the Atlanta and Miami properties.

I would love it if Bonneville got the whole shoot and match, they are one of the best companies in the broadcast business...

I'd be more worried if Bonneville does get Lincoln's KQKS/Denver.

Sorry to be caustic here...but you need to learn something about radio.

Signal: They can't improve it. The FCC rules won't allow it. 94-5 was a "drop-in" station brought about by what was known as "Docket 80/90". It was designed to serve Trotwood. (Or, at least that was the excuse that was used to secure the license.)

Music Choice: Fine until a bigger signal comes along. Then, they're dead in the water.

Entertainment: Dave & Jimmy are in Columbus. They're not going to come to Dayton for appearances. They're too busy with WNCI in C-town.

Live DJ's: If you only made a million dollars last year on this station (as has been suggested), you can't afford a big staff.
The "players" in Dayton are all making 5, 6, 7 times that.

You can't program to "teens" as your primary audience. Teens don't make you money. Women 18-34 do.

Just a neutral observation, but no, you don't appear sorry. If you were, you'd have chosen to not reply.

You're right. I'm not sorry. I'm just right.

To quote Larry The Cable Guy... I don't care who you are that's funny right there.

For what it's worth, it is nice to have the input of a REAL pro as Jason has proven to be. I've worked in the industry for almost a decade and have no where near the knowlege that he seems to have.. Keep posting Jason, I enjoy it when you call out the wannabe's who can't get hired in radio but seem to think they know more about programing a station than the people who can.
