By "step it up", I mean this; IMO, if they ever want to regain that Top 10 spot they once had a while back, then they gotta take other measures (besides bringing back Commercial Free Hours, which is a plus because I'd like to drive home from work with more music and zero commercials). Maybe add newer music before AMP does; maybe do an afternoon-drive mix (because they used to do one when Beau was still doing afternoon drive, I think it was the Weekend Rollout or something, I can't remember the exact name); maybe have more street presence.....who knows what that may be, but whatever it is, they gotta find a winning formula and DO IT if they ever want to see high ratings as tey did when they competed against DRQ from 2001-05.
I speciically pointed out Joe Rosati and Jag for two reasons (not taking anything away from them, they do a good job at what they do); in Joe's case, some of the topics he come up with IMO does't cater to the 18-34 target demo that 9-5-5 targets (not saying that there's anything wrong with winning the 25-54 female audience). You gotta win the main audience-- the 18-34 year olds--and cover topics that they would want to tune in to. I say that because I'm in that 18-34 year-old audience as well (I'm only 20 by the way, if anyone's keeping score) and hearing about dating advice-- although helpful--doesn't help me at all. I'd rather hear about Jersey Shore than how to have a successful first date (just my thought on that).
In Jag's case.....I think I'm not giving him a fair shot seeing that he's still "fairly new" here, but I think his presentation's too dry, especially hearing him broadcast from a club (or maybe i's just me). Part of being on a CHR station is having an upbeat presentation (feel free to correct me on that statemet
I know that's a long satement, but that's what I mean by "step it up". The way I see it, everyone (including myself) have flaws that need to address if they want to be at the top. And for my standpoint, I feel that 9-5-5 need to find that "winning formula" (whatever that may be...)
Till then, like the rest of us, I'll just keep listening...
