So here's the dirty lowdown:
Channel is Mainstream CHR from 6a-6p and then the other 12 hours, it's Rhythmic CHR. Both logs being Premium Choice. What I like/dislike:
Like:
- They're being risky with trying to steal listeners from the powerhouse, Hot 1029.
- They are going back to their old roots of playing rhythmic on that station.
- The night show is a lot better than the previous one. Billy The Kidd was good, but then JoJo's show was absolutely horrible. They now have "Mack On The Radio" from Y100 Miami who should do a lot better against The Partyman on Hot 1029.
Dislike:
- The rhythmic format is a little dry, not taking risks with some of the big rhythmic hits, and often just as repetitive as the mainstream music log.
- It's not a good idea to be powering certain songs at night and not playing them at all during the day like Tyga and New Boyz. With CHR, people pay attention a little more than if it was Hot AC only playing certain songs at night.
- There is nothing special about the either format. Honestly, I think it should just be the format Channel goes with permanently. They'd only not be playing a few currents and some of the old "mix format" gold such as Fall Out Boy and The Killers.
I'll keep you guys posted and will let you know this weekend what log CC decides to go with. I encourage you to listen to Channel both during the day and at night and tell me what log you think sounds better. Here's the Rhythmic log (10pm EST on Channel 999)
LMFAO - Party Rock Anthem
Ne-Yo - Closer
Iyaz/Travie McCoy - Pretty Girls
Katy Perry - Teenage Dream
Kanye West/Rihanna - All Of The Lights (not heard on Mainstream)
Gym Class Heroes/Adam Levine - Stereo Hearts
Enrique Iglesias/Pitbull - Tonight
Dev - In The Dark
Usher/Will.i.am - OMG
Nicki Minaj/Rihanna - Fly
Pitbull/Ne-Yo/Afrojack/Nayer - Give Me Everything
Nelly Furtado/Timbaland - Promiscuous
Bad Meets Evil/Bruno Mars - Lighters
Britney Spears - Till The World Ends
Flo Rida - Good Feeling (not heard on Mainstream YET but predicting that'll add it soon)
So... 1-2 songs that aren't heard on the mainstream format, and you're not hearing The Script or Taylor Swift. Dayton is a rhythmic town anyway. I say go with the rhythmic format and keep things pushin'!
