Channel Gon Crunk?

I've been checking out Channel 945 lately and I have noticed a few changes.

1. They are extremely Rhythmic. Their entire 12:00 Lunch Request (all old-school) is made up of Urban/CHR/Rhythmic Recurrents & Golds. NO CHR.
2. On their rock/pop songs they've slowed the tempo down.
3. They have new ID's and drops.
4. I believe they dropped the "Dirty Download" and now just call it "Download" (Not sure).
5. They've took out the jingle after the promo for the Morning Mess that used to say, "The Morning Messssssssss Weekdays 6-10 ChachachachachachaChannel 945!"

Just a few things I've noticed. Anybody want to share what they think?

I don't really listen to Channel much...but what I've heard sounds better than Z93.

Oh and on a side note: Anyone seen the commercial Channel is running right now on TV?

Are they making fulltime jocks that young these days?

When did I get old?

There's a commercial!?

I am a big Channel fan. I grew up with The Beat. Loved KISS FM. And listened to the entire stunt of KISS FM into Channel. I even have the launch on MP3.

But, wait...

What TV channel is running the commercial?

I'd love to see it and yes, they do make those jocks young.

The Morning Mess: Young
Elesha: Probably a college grad or in college now
Drake: In mid 20's but sounds young on air
E: Once a intern, now a jock.. BUT.. BEATS FRYE GUY (Z-93) BIG TIME.

I wonder if Channel is preparing for if they get bought and flip to FULL-BLOWN Urban or CHR/Rhythmic kind of like WLTO Hot 102 in Lexington.

I echo the thought that Channel sounds better than Z. It's not a slam dunk, but they do sound better. Yes...jocks...YOUNG! Wish the morning show was a bit more seasoned sounding.

The TV commercials I've seen featuring them is on the CW.

Ahh.. I've seen it. The one with The Morning Mess. And OF COURSE they sound better than Z! Z's variety is good but Hot AC leaning. For a Mainstream CHR, Z sounds good but their programming SUCKS. 945 beats them by a mile. I do wish 945 would stop playing and go full blown CHR/Rhythmic. You know the "Hits & Hip-Hop" feel like B96 in Chicago. OR they could keep the "All The Hits" deal like Hot 102 (WLTO Lexington) but be full-blown CHR/Rhythmic. 945, IF YOU READ THIS BOARD.. CUT THE CRAP. GO CHR/RHYTHMIC.

Well, even aside from the music, I think Channel has more "vibe" to it. Just the overall sound of the station has more flava. Z's imaging couldnt be any more generic, and that's unfortunate.

Yuck! Z's imaging SUCKS. You know what Z needs to bow down to 945 and then call it a day.

When it comes to Top 40 radio in Dayton, Channel has it on lock. Though 102.9 rocks both Channel and Z, but they are a Rhythmic/Urban station anyways. If Channel went Rhythmic, they would be unbelieveable. It would make radio fun again, that's for sure! I am a huge fan of the Drake Show.

I agree and disagree. 102.9 is just like Z93.. BORING. Crossfading: BORING. Jocks: Okay but nothing like 945. NOW I AGREE that if Channel went Rhythmic, they'd be EXCELLENT. And I love The Drake Show. I wonder if they will really go CHR/Rhythmic.. it'd be great. Especially if they did something like KISS Cincinnati's Power Jam or whatever on Fri. nights.

Speaking of 102.9...when did they add the 5pm mix show? I always listen to the 5 o'clock "Bass"ment on the Wiz and just happened to flip past Hot and noticed the new mix show.

All of these messages brought to you by the staff of Channel 945. We now return to old guys talking about radio from 30 years ago.

Why would Channel 945 staff write messages telling themselves to give up the CHR approach and go rhythmic? And why would someone butt into a thread about a station with a much smaller signal holding its own against a much larger, heritage station? Even if they don't hold a large share of the market, it's a good competition.

ummmm...what the hell are you talking about? I know two of the people who've posted on this thread and none of us have any affiliation with Channel 94-5.

Wow, guys, it was a joke. The reason, all of the posts were in a negative manner towards Radio One stations. But, since you forced me to comment... Why not try this on. 102.9 and 92.9 are focusing on two different niches; one Urban, the other a more business friendly Top 40. Channel, on the other hand, is trying to take on both at the same time. Seems to me Channel is the one without direction.

Now I do understand, CC doesn't care about Channel's success. It is there to flank the two R1 stations. To knock off a couple ratings points and keep the money flowing in to Pine Street.

Agreed, the station has sounded inconsistant since day one. First they were mainstreem, then they were rythmic leaning, then mainstreem, then rythmic leaning again. On that note, they aren't even a very good rythmic leaning CHR... IMO. Although it might help if they actually had a program director..

I think you nailed it on the head. That is probably the biggest indicator that Channel is going to be one of the two stations spun off from Pine street. Why bother hiring a new guy? So, the music adjustments, as of late, are probably just the MD playing stuff he thinks the station should be playing. I mean, why not? It's not like anybody cares.

It's cool 'IWorkThere'...it's just that you can never tell on these boards who's just here to be sinister and stir things up.

This is all good discussion. ;D
