Channel six's going dark.

What non-coms in your area will be able to up their facilities without having to protect channel six's any more?

It doesn't even appear the FCC has decided exactly what they will do with that bandwidth, once it's been mostly vacated -- you have to remember that low power TV (LPTV) doesn't have to go digital at this time. In fact, there is a group setting up "radio stations" on 87.7 FM around the country by using the audio band of Channel 6 LPTV stations. The most famous one is in NYC. So, the FCC has a few things to figure out, like what they want to do about that, for example, and also if they want to merely auction off the bandwidth for the cellular people or maybe double the size of the FM band, for example. Lots and lots of options. ;D

We, the royal plural, cast our vote for this and that.
First we use channels five and six (too many TV stations remaining on high VHF) for this, and then we dump that!
