Channels/Networks not carried in HD on your cable provider

Here in Connecticut COX does not carry the HD feeds of the following channels/networks:

18 WUVN Univision. Since they only carry the SD feed Channel 18.3 UniMas appears on 19.3 without a box instead of 18.3 and is 79 with a box.

QVC-HD

HSN-HD.

HLN-HD.

Plus if you don't have a box you don't get ION in HD. If you have a box ION-HD (WHPX/26) is 1010. COX also does not carry any of ION's subchannels either, but then again neither does COMCAST.

There are probably some others that I'm forgetting, but here are 4 for now.

My system (Comcast) does not carry TV Land HD.

Also, Weather Channel HD does not carry the local weather info. It's on the SD Weather Channel only.

@ MarcB: I have Comcast in New Britain (CT) with no converter. Both TVs on my floor receive WUVN-TV (UNI) channel 18 of Hartford in HD. We also get the LATV station in SD and WUTH-CA channel 47 (UniMas) in SD.

@ FredLeonard: Same thing here. The national feed is in HD, but with no local stuff. We get TWC in SD on another channel. That feed does give the local info and advertising crawl.

Here in Denver, Comcast is the only game in town & the following channels aren't offered in HD

* C-SPAN (Neither of them - C-SPAN does offer them)

* Current TV (I'm told the folks at Al Jazeera/Current TV are working on this)

* ESPN Classic (Then again, given some of the material, it's not that surprising this channel isn't in HD)

* Fox College Sports (Neither of them - You would think Fox Sports would offer them if they plan on keeping these)

* Golf Channel (You would think a channel that's OWNED by Comcast/NBC would have an HD feed, no?)

Those are the only ones I can think of. Anyone else know of any others?

Cheers & 73 ;D

I don't think TV Land, ESPN Classic, or FCS have HD feeds. FCS seems like a bunch of forgotten non-entities, that both never get HD feeds and survive regardless because no one at Fox remembers they're there.

Comcast in Seattle recently added a bunch of HD feeds that take care of most of the holes, but it's still surprising not to get OWN in HD; I'm guessing (hoping) they're waiting for football season to add Goal Line/Buzzer Beater HD. They also added regular C-SPAN in HD but not 2 or 3. And while they recently added KUNS in HD, Galavision remains the only other Spanish-language HD channel.

In Kansas City, Time Warner does not have any CSPAN channels or WGN America in HD, but Mediacom in Columbia MO has WGN HD but no CSPAN HD. CSPAN streaming is available free

TV Land just launched a HD feed within the last year, and it's available on DirecTV. I believe our local Time Warner system also has TV Land HD. Time Warner also carries WeTV and TV One in HD, but neither one's HD feed is available on DirecTV.

ESPN Classic is an afterthought at this point, even moreso when many systems across the country swapped Classic with ESPNU in programming tiers (and channel slots) a few years ago. I sometimes forget where Classic is on my DirecTV system ;D. Since the four major leagues (and some of the college conferences) are taking back over more control of their archived material, Classic is pretty useless now unless you want to catch an old 30 for 30 film or two.

I'm in the Boston area with Comcast, here's a list of HD channels they don't carry:

C-SPAN HD

TV Land HD

Sprout HD (I'm pretty sure it's available in HD other places)

Hub HD

OWN HD

Cooking Channel HD

Smithsonian HD

I know that there's a few gaps in the lineup, and some parts of Western MA recently got Sprout and Hub.

Truth be told, I don't see much reason to have channels showing older TV shows, filmed in 4:3 aspect ratio, in HD. They blow up the image and crop the top and bottom to make it fit. I'd rather see old shows as originally shot.

The only two channels I care about that aren't in HD on Charter in Wisconsin are WGN America and The Weather Channel. Probably want to get all the HD headend equipment for TWC in before they flip on the switch for their HD signal. We also don't get Sprout, the shopping channels, the C-SPANs or Bloomberg in HD, but I'm not exactly chomping for those.

Seriously though, the only reason for TV Land HD to be justified is for about 1/4 of their day's content, like their original shows and Friends reruns. I would also give back the bandwidth wasted by Oxygen and ID's HD channels for anything else.

They could bump the pixels up to 720i since that's HD & still supports 4:3 (Many YouTube videos are made this way) but DEFINATELY NOT 1080i (That would make it look like Stretch-O-Vision)

Comcast in Denver has Golf Channel HD on 672.
Shows you how much I know since I don't watch the channel

I'm one of those people who typically doesn't watch channels which aren't in any of my favorites lists :)

Cheers & 73 ;D

The only channel I have even half an interest in that we don't get in HD here (Comcast in southern NH) is BBC World News.

Comcast Orlando no CFNEWS13 and BHN won't allow them to have and that's not right.
Comcast Olathe/MO none of KPXE Digital Sub Channels,HD Channels in the Thousands yet,No Regional Sports Networks like Yes Network,Sun Sports,TWCSN,PAC12 Network,Big Ten overflow Channels only SD of FSN Midwest Plus and no Metro Weather or Metro Sports HD/2 and Bounce TV is till to be annouced for KC area Cable Systems. TWCKC has WGN America in HD.

Shoot, I still watch cable on an analog TV set. I've never had to bother learning what channels Charter carries in HD locally.

Do the Nickelodeon sister networks Nick Jr. Nick Toons Teen Nick have HD yet? Aa it seems mostly all the popular networks are available in HD besides the Nick sister channels, QVC, HSN, and WGN America if WGN ofters HD.

Note regarding Weather Channel HD only the SD version shows the warning scroll not the HD feed.

Looks like Comcast in my area is pretty far behind. It lists C-Span, GSN, Hub, Smithsonian, Sportsman TV, Speed and Sprout as widely available in HD, and my area doesn't have any of those.
