Chantel Druce Officially Auditions on NJ 101.5

Chantel Druce will host her own two-hour show tonight (Thurs 10/27) from 7-9pm. Obviously, something is going on and someone is leaving. I was speculating Judi, but could it be Mary? I know she has expressed her desire to leave this expensive state. After all, it is her and her husband only.

Mary does have the worst hours. Her show is always interrupted for something. The governors debate, their news specials, election coverage in November (no doubt). I'm sure the "Passion Phones" are very well liked and I do like Mary, but how many relationship topics can one really do without repeating thousands of times?

We'll have to wait and see.
______________

Okay I've listened two minutes so far and I'm shutting it off...Painful...
______________

Granted it was a little painful. Lot of dead-air, not much to really say, so she repeated things many times.

But you have to remember that she's probably very nervous. She's talking to hundreds of thousands, if not more than that by herself. She was very good with Dennis last Wednesday and this Wednesday.

Frankly I am so sick of this "passion phone" stuff. It's becoming very stale and repetitive, as much as I do like Mary. I want the days of Roberta Gale to come back. I do listen every now and then on KFYI-Phoenix.
______________

Why don't they have a guy co-host with Mary if not regularly, then once or twice a week? It would be nice to hear a man's point of view and I think it would "perk" the show up. Dennis & Judy can talk about nothing for 4 hours and make it entertaining because they play off of each other well. They have Mary so restricted topic-wise that giving her a sidekick would definitely freshen it up. Especially when you hear relationship topics discussed during the other day parts. By the time Mary gets on, even if it's in the news, it sounds old because it's been talked about earlier in the day. It's gotta be a rough job hosting alone and being so constricted with topics.

BTW, how do you know this was an "official audition"?

I definitely think it would spice things up, but then you'd have another salary to add. It's not as though Dennis & Judi talk about relationships for 4-hours. They normally do during the noon lunch hour because that's peak time, I suppose.

I'm just very sick of the whole "passion phones" concept. They still have Mary doing it, and for a time Michele backed her up at 11pm. How many times can you talk about love online or a nasty divorce?!? But then if you talk about the events of the day, it also seems old because others have done it. It's a sticky situation.

The best days featured Roberta Gale, Jay Sorensen, and Allan David Stein way back when. For some reason, things worked when they did it.

They've put Chantel on with Dennis twice, and she sounded great although no Judi. This was her first go around at trying to do a show on her own. Mary was clearly out all night from 7-11, so to give her only two hours preceded by The Jersey Guys was a clear indication that they were trying to obtain a "lead-in" audience. I think they did the same thing when Craig began by himself before Ray. He was on a few hours before anyone knew Scott & Casey were leaving and then they gave him the full 5-hours.
______________

The old New Jersey 101.5 would be awesome right about now!

Those really were the best days. I loved the station so much back then, I hardly listened to any music stations! And I was "supposed" to hate NJ101.5 because they gobbled up Boss 97.

I hate what has become of NJ101.5 nowadays. Every time I try to give it a chance, I end up turning it off in disgust. People will argue that the ratings are great but they'll probably never admit that the numbers would be just as good--and probably better--if Jay & Hil and Roberta were still on. (I liked Allan David Stein too but I think I remember someone saying his numbers were rather dismal compared to the rest of the day. However, he seemed to have a very loyal audience and I never heard him want for calls.)

Rumor has it the entire station is way down for the summer. So it makes sense that Passion Phones would be off too. (Sorry! I listen on my way home and I like the show!)

Well, I'm sure she has her fans. But the whole "passion phones" thing is so old now.
______________

Re: The old New Jersey 101.5 would be awesome right about now!

Those were probably the best of days...but I still love the way things are now for the most part. Some things I would change, but nothing major on-air. In such stressful times and days, I don't want to listen to such serious stuff sometimes. I love the fun and frivolity...it keeps me moving and laughing throught the day. The time goes by much faster for me.
______________

Who?

I like NJ 101.5, too but you really do seem to listen to it a lot. It's almost like those guys in the CIA who used to spend their time analyzing who was standing next to whom at the Moscow May Day parade looking for clues as to changes in the Kremlin hierarchy.
You must be taking notes as you listen to capture all the minute detail in some of your posts.
Get out of the house. The worst that happens is you end up calling Mary for advice, instead of listening to other people call Mary.

Hopefully they'll let you out soon.

Re: Who?

I do listen a lot; not like there's anything wrong with that. I'm on the go a lot and in the car a lot. I like laughing and knowing what's going on. Problem with that?

I'm not one of those people who hangs and scrutinizes every single word however.
______________

I say bring back the music 24/7,WKXW one O one and a half!
They were always there with great music when the NY dial just started to
sound bland.

Mary was at her best when she was doing the morning show on WCTC. "Passion Phones" makes her sound like an over-the-hill bimbo (sort of like Joan Rivers minus a few decades), but on WCTC she revealed herself as being surprisingly capable of talking about meaningful topics and doing real interviews.

On the other hand, some ex-NJ101.5 personalities did not seem to improve their style when they went over to WCTC -- namely, Jay Sorenson and Alan David Stein. (Jay is now on WJRZ while Alan is doing a weekend DJ shift on Magic 98.3.)

I would love to hear Mary talk about other topics other than "passion phone" related things. She should do just a "normal" type of talk show. There are so many more ways to go instead of the restrictions of the "passion phones".
______________

Either that or she should allow things to get more explicit on the show, more like "Love Phones" on Z-100 was back in the '90s... but even as much as Craig Carton likes to push things, I doubt such a change would be approved by the management, especially in light of today's more restrictive FCC. Nonetheless, the big let-down of "Passion Phones" is that you expect it to be "passionate", yet the actual content of the show is largely PG-rated. Even Oprah and Dr. Phil get more explicit on their shows than Mary does.

I was only able to hear Mary on CTC if I had an early appointment in the area, but I too was really surprised with how knowledgeable she was about politics and what was going on in NJ. Unfortunately that's a fit with the "old" NJ101.5. The Jersey Guys have moved the station away from political, NJ talk and more in to the "hot" talk genre.

I have to admit that I enjoy listening to her current show, but as I stated before, I think it would be much more lively if they gave her a male co-host. I know it would be another salary, but why not have some of her regular male callers in to "co-host" once or twice a week? I'm sure they'd do it just for the thrill of being on the air. Heck, why not someone who works at the station already? It seems that during the day, the entire office staff manages to be on with Dennis & Judy or Craig & Ray!
