Chaos at 'KXL?

Does any one know what the hell is going on over at WKXL? A couple of weeks ago the station manager was fired. Now word is Gardner Hill who has been at the station for 30 years is being pushed out. what is going on over there? Does any one know?

Garnder has been at WKXL a couple of times.

My guess is the ownship finally sat down with their accountants and realized they were spending money like drunken sailors.

$$$$

Always the root of all radio. Isn't it?

Mr. Hill did indeed leave and come back. He was out of WKXL for about 3-4 years mostly during the Vox reign. I find it hard to believe that WKXL hasn't had to do this sooner as their revenues are, from what I hear, the lowest they have ever been. The station appeals to a primarily older audience which is the most difficult to sell to advertisers in the now competitive Concord market.

As the former station manager, I can confirm that I was let go a couple of weeks ago. Also, Gardner gave his notice and will be leaving at the end of the month.

Man, I'm sorry to hear that Anthony. From these boards you sound like you have a very good head on your shoulders. I think they're going to miss you.

Gordon needs to bring Dick Osborne in to kick the whole station in the ass.

Thanks for the comment. I really do appreciate it.

I'm still getting calls and emails from people at the station, including the owner who got rid of me, needing help or looking for things. So, I know I'm missed. That's what happens when you're doing the job of 4.5 people: You become indispensable to anyone who really has a good grasp on the business world or a good understanding of their own business.

The whole thing is a long and disappointing story, especially since I left a good career in the newspaper business in Massachusetts to come back to Concord to work at WKXL. I did learn a lot though. And, long-term, this is change is a positive thing for me: No more 70 hour/7 day work weeks and more time with my family. I'm sure at some point someone in the media business will recognize all I offer a company and hire me. ;D
