Chapter 27

I totally forgot yesterday Kiss 95.1 turned 27 years old. May 31st 1996 Kiss launched with the first song I Go Blind from Hootie & The Blowfish. The first jock was Danny Wright. Man time moves quick.

Good long run with the hit music format under the Kiss branding. They had been rock, alternative, and some hit music variations before the change to Kiss. Most notably WROQ and 95Q back when they were rock format in the 80's. Then they changed and WROQ went to 101 in Greenville, SC. Later 95.1 became WNKS and launched successful hit music format. And added Ace and TJ as popular morning personalities, recently returned.

Had The Edge launched as a straight up Alternative back in 94 The End might had been a different station. I remember The Edge morphing into an Alt 40 direction in the summer/fall of 95 only to swing back CHR with the eventual switch to Kiss in 96.

The End has been around nearly 30 years. And what that station does is compared to active rock, even if has always been considered modern or alternative.
I like your posts, & usually agree with them. But, how could you say The End is compared to Active Rock, when it's always been considered Modern or Alt? **************** & AllAccess.com categorize the format as Alternative. Active Rock is what Charlotte has needed for decades, & I've been saying it that long. Just look at Active Rocker 93.3/The Planet - WTPT - Greenville/Spartanburg. They have Charlotte listeners that have a need for Active Rock that no Charlotte station provides.

95.7 The Panther back in the late 90's was the closest station that almost fit Active Rock, but was not cutting it in the ratings. Early 2000's even though listed ad Alternative was very Active Rock friendly. Not that it would happen, but Charlotte needs a good station like WMMR in Philadelphia. They are Mainstream rock, but plays enough classic rock to keep the older demo happy. Since the Beasley stations in Charlotte seem to be doing pretty decent I don't see them doing that, but with Hits 96.1 not doing well anything is possible, but not likely.

That's true, but I meant The End has leaned more toward active than many modern or alternative stations. I'm sure it was someone here who made that statement.

An example I thought of: I think someone said The End played Metallica. They may not have done that at first, and that band wouldn't fit an alternative or modern format.
