Charles Laquidara Back in Boston

I heard a promo saying Charles Laquidara will be co-hosting Sam's Jams on WATD (95.9) on Friday night 7-10pm. This should be a GREAT show!!!

Hmmm looks like friday night might be a good night for that WATD studio tour my fav radio sales person keeps offering me!

Last time I saw Charles in person face to face I was running the board at U Lowells WJUL, in the 1978 ish time frame, and the school had Charles come give a lecture, we got him before the lecture.

The then unknown JoAnne Doody and Nancy Quill were the interviewers.

Last time I saw him was in 2000 when he guest hosted my show with me on WMBR, a few weeks before he did his last show on WZLX. We had a blast, he was like a kid in a candy store with the total freedom to play and say whatever he wanted. We took listener calls, and he talked about the history of progressive rock radio and described how corporate rock stations are run behind the scenes today (consultants, focus groups, playlists, etc...). I was surprised how much he revealed on the air, but he had nothing to lose by talking openly about it by that point.

WMBR has a fundraising pledge premium offer every fall in which a donor can guest host an edition of the show of their choice (with the regular DJ). The required pledge was $88.10 back then (for the 88.1 frequency, but it's since gone up to $150 with inflation). Charles made the donation (and a bit more) on my show during the previous fundraiser, and I suggested he come in and guest host the show with me before he took off. It was a real good time!

This ought to be a cool show on WATD this Friday night. Sam and Charles!

Hey Slip Q , tape it for me, my mic duties in NH will keep me from listening live....is Chuckkkkkk gonna be in the emporium? or will he be by phone?

Charles did a "Dwayne Glasscock" apperance on WZBC the summer of 1979 , couple of months after the Strike Broadcast of 79. It was a hoot....

They're on now. Charles is live with Sam in the WATD studio.

Another early 'BCN DJ, Debbie Ullman, is also with them.

I don't think I'll have time to listen to the whole show, so I'm rolling a VCR tape on it.

Listening on the stream, got on the air with them at about 8:15.... he remembered the night at WJUL, but only the fact he was high as a kite!

I heard you! I'm listening over the air here in Somerville. I get a little static interference from adjacent WSRS, but otherwise steady stereo reception. I live partway up on the side of a south-southwest facing hill.

I just called and spoke to Chuck off the air. Gave him an invitation for a return engagement to guest host my show on WMBR with me again, and play whatever he wants. Sounds like he may not have time this visit, though, but we'll check back on it.
