I'm guessing this will be a pre-recorded show he will send in from Hawaii.

He's still listed for 6-10 AM Wednesday mornings (11 AM - 3 PM ET) on KEAO 91.5 FM, a non-commercial community volunteer station in Wailuku (Maui) Hawaii, which I believe he does live. (He's also filling in there Mondays and Tuesdays in that slot through January as well).

may be that's a new boston classic dj format that buzz knight is working on for 102.5 : an hour of charles, an hour of parenteau(from his cell), an hour of shelton, an hour of peter wolf, an hour of wharfield, an hour of goodwin, an hour of gonzer, an hour of jess cain, an hour of annalisa, an hour of jj kincaid, an hour of alan colmes, an hour of....

Good info,as long as Charles has total freedom to pick the music it sounds like a show that will be interesting to hear.

Guess it depends on his ear for music. You can be a big-name talent and your taste in music can still suck. His show wasn't especially music-intensive any time I heard him on either BCN or ZLX, and my guess was that it was formatted anyway (except in the early days...never heard him back then). I doubt WBOS will be going freeform for an hour a day.

According to what he told me, his show was (mostly) formatted/playlisted on both stations following 'BCN's early "free-form" and "progressive" years in the late 60's and 70's. When he was moved to 'ZLX in the mid-90's they gave him more musical leeway for a short time as kind of an initial promotional lark, but that was quickly tightened up. Bringing back a lot of deep album tracks from the "underground" era didn't play well in the morning drive ratings at the time.

I'm guessing that for this one hour feature of Charles' favorite album tracks on WBOS, they may do something like give him reign to pick what he wants from within the stations master playlist database.

It can't hurt 'BOS. I know they're usually rather formatted, like everyone else, but perhaps for an hour a week, they'll bend a little. Even if they don't, they're going to get a certain number of listeners tuning in for a few minutes at least, just to hear Charles again.......hello rangooooon??

Charles' greatest moment (and perhaps the greatest moment in Boston radio history) was a weekend-long Duane Glasscock marathon (c. 1979?) that ended in Duane having a literal melt-down and being taken back to the lab to be genetically re-engineered. It was hilarious. IIRC Tom Couch and Eddie Gorodetsky wrote the entire thing.

Ah, stories like these harken back to yesteryear, back before two or three companies controlled the Boston market, when (it seemed, anyway) broadcasters were more.......creative? or at least, allowed to be?

I recently heard tapes of Norm Nathan on WRJO andd WHDH, doing stuff that would still be entertaining today.

Stern did that sorta stuff also, even though the FCC called him on it.

I wonder what, or who, will be next?

Is Parenteau still in prison??? For how long?
