Charleston AM bandscans

Over a recent week, I made two AM band scans in the Charleston area. Both were around 2 or 2:30 pm, with hours of daylight remaining. I did one band scan right on Folly Beach, 200 feet, maybe less from the ocean, and another band scan in Goose Creek, about 20 miles from Charleston Harbor and close to 25 from the Atlantic.

There's a huge difference between the two areas even though it is only a 45 minute drive between the two spots.

Thanks for the videos!

You get 540 from Orlando at the beach up there much better than I do here in Tampa.

I knew WQAM gets out there but that was real strong. A lot stronger than I imagined.

Was that WAXY from miami on 790?

There was talk on 880. Was it WPEK or WCBS?

560 actually was the Columbia station there, that is a sports station, but WQAM was under it. 790 was Brunswick, GA's WSFN. That signal gets out. 880 might have been Miami. WCBS was under them probably. I was facing SE and the car antenna was facing toward Charleston, so it is probably different depending on where you are.

There were at least two music stations on 1370 during the Folly Beach scan, Charles. Might one of them have been WALK from Long Island?

Reason I ask is that, from a place on Long Island a bit west of Patchogue, water-path plus some sort of lingering Auroral-effect brought in WTGR Myrtle Beach one sunrise -- 'Tiger Radio'. If water-path is indeed reciprocal .......
No sign of WKBW that morning. It was some time ago, but if my reasoning is correct, the Aurora was blanking out WKBW, and by default, sheer water-path took over.

Thanks for the fun stuff! The monitor here is going fooey, so I couldn't make out the frequencies well.

Geez, I forgot about WZAB from Sweetwater, Florida on 880. That's probably what it had to be because of the all saltwater path.

That's a good catch. I could hardly hear them daytime in Daytona Beach.
